    Gents.

I am starting a new job in a couple of weeks that will involve a substantial amount of client visits. It's an auditing role and while not formal enough for a briefcase, it will require me carry a laptop, client files and what not so I'm looking for recommendations for a bag of some kind that would suit same. Nothing too ostentatious but not studenty either.

    Tia.

Frankly, it sounds like a classic "laptop bag" will be more than suitable for your case. There are fancier ones made of leather and such, it really depends on how much you want to spend.

Alternatively, if you need to carry larger amounts of documents, you might look into a pilot bag / case, they're made specifically to carry charts / folders + laptop (and headset, which you probably don't need :) ).

I work in sales so have a need for a briefcase. However, I hate your typical "boxy" type of briefcase.

I got one of these 3 or 4 years ago. https://mishnoc.com/the-hulk-leather-briefcase/

I get complimented on it every time i enter a room. (They sould really put business cards into it for themselves!)

Again depends on how much you are willing to spend of course.

I suppose even a smart backpack is out of the question?

Go for something light, or it will kill you with laptops, papers etc
    Also must be weatherproof

You could even go for a small roller bag

    That's indeed a "Pilot Case" :)

Thats the type of thing I was looking at. The pilot bags look a bit too casual imo.

    Ended up going for this.

Laptop or tablet, chargers, earphones, biros, notebook, diary, project files, promotional materials, spare business cards, work lanyard with ID, personnel correspondence to be dealt with, bottle of water and a protein bar or two.

Thats in mine anyway, handy thing to have. Nice choice OP.

Fcuk, that's a nice bag! Dislike how it'd let water in the side, if the rain was heavy enough, but it'd be suitable for non-public transport.
