Dual Immersion replacement

A couple of questions for the experts here:
    1. My immersion is making a rattling noise on the bath setting (but still working). i presume this is a sign it's ready to fail?
    2. i put in the old immersion 4 years ago, so if i have to replace it I'd like to put in the best quality possible with a decent lifespan (south Dublin water supply). Could someone give me an idea of a good make or even what to avoid?
    3. i have a small wood burning stove which heats the water in the winter. it tends to trip the hot water safety protection in the immersion occasionally.
Do any of the immersions have an external reset button so that I don't have to take the cover off to reset it?

    Thanks all for your help

Could the rattling noise be coming from the sink/bath switch? I'd be concerned that the switch is faulty or loose connection.

I gave up doing immersions a long time ago but I know plenty come with a reset button you can push without removing the cap

If the immersion element is touching the coil inside the cylinder then this may be the cause of the rattle
A tap of a hammer near the immersions collar may resolve this for you,but extreme caution is advised if you try this.

Or its after building up crude and not dissipating heat properly and bubbling off it

I'd expect that in Balbriggan but I'd be surprised to see a limescale caked 4 year old element in South Dublin. Not impossible though

Depends on usage too as much as water quality

I rarely use the bath element so I can't see how it is failing. The electrical switch is ok, but Meercat's point about the element touching the coil may be valid. The rattle is quite loud - you can hear it the other end of the house.
Is there any value in fitting a titanium type immersion in a soft water area like South Dublin.?
