Seen this artwork on another site and everyone recognises it, but no one knows where it's from.

    Anyone here know?

Now you have to give a link to it, no good just saying "Oh yeah it's from........".

Except that's not where people are familiar with it from.
Its a style. People are familiar with things they have never seen.

You recognize a flower you have never seen before as being a flower even though it doesn't look like any flower you have seen.

You can place a dress into a certain style though you have never seen that particular dress.

People have never seen that one particular pattern. But they recognize its style. its form.

You may never have seen a 70s outfit before but you know when its 70's style and everyone would agree.

The pattern is a style from that time. Truth is people had never seen it before. But they can place it's style origin.

There is probably a psychological term to describe it.

While all that makes perfect sense, I'm not convinced.
I believe that there is a definitive answer to this one where everyone will go "ahhhhhh, of course"!
The skateboard is not this answer.

Its looks like a pattern probably used on anything from bus seats, to a part of an album cover or 80s clothing, or all three.
