The most bizarre thing happened today. Came out to my car, (182 Leaf 40), this morning and found it was broken into and some new toys missing from boot and back seat! Disappointing, but that is the world we live in I suppose. Went to check the rest of the car to see what else may be missing and to my horror, the steering wheel was missing!!! Someone stole my steering wheel! I still in shock. Cops were stunned, garage stunned everyone was stunned especially me.
I can guarantee the alarm was on and car locked so seems they scanned the key fob some how as there was no forced entry.
Just posting this to warn all leaf owners to keep the keys away from front door at night as the guards said this may be how they accessed the car.

They steal them for the airbag I think. Worth quite a few quid.

I know where I would be shoving the airbag and then let it off ...

    Absolute scum...

Spent the whole day with guards, insurance company, getting car towed to garage, back to insurance company, car hire. Lost a full days wages. There is a risk that I will be without the Leaf for over a week as insurance assessor won’t come out until Tuesday and garage obviously don’t keep steering wheels in stock. Insurance company will cover car hire up to €300 so may end up paying top up if car delayed. Add in insurance excess and possible increase in premiums next year, and now have to get CCTV this could end up being very expensive!

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    Sorry for your troubles!

If you have a decent insurance company, a loss through no fault of your own (such as theft) should not be counted as a claim. Some of the insurance companies are cowboys though, hope you are not with one of them.

Also, you should keep the keys in the hall, where they can easily be found if someone breaks in. For your own safety and that of your family. But you should put them in a metal box, so the signal can't be picked up with the scanning tools they are using.
