Hi all, I am due to start the online green cert through Westport college of further education in September this year. I am just looking for some information as to the course itself and whats involved ie. is there much work involved, how many days do you need to attend the college/ farm practicals, is a hard course to do when working away full time. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks !

I am doing it myself. When I looked at the website it seemed like there was along of webinars. 2 full evenings a week.

Hopefully these ain’t compulsory cos zero chance of being able to attend more than 50%.

    Hello,
I done the course during 2017/2018, not an awful amount of work to do,but at the same time you need to keep on top of it.

For me the most difficult thing was the practical/work placement diary, it covered 26 weeks. just that i left this until the end,its easier said than done but id recommend spending 15-20 minutes of the scheduled online evenings to complete a diary entry.

I found it manageable with full time work

The course was 2 evenings a week from end of september until april, from 6.30 to 9.30pm,

I think about 3 or 4 Saturdays for practicals and exams, it suited me to attend the college on the evenings to complete exams and practicals, with the classroom based students

What’s the typical 6.30-9.30 evening structure?

    Is attendance taken?
Is participation expected if you are on line? I.e you answer question and talk back?
Cover one subject an evening or will there be multiple subject/teachers?

Evening split up into two, with a break at around 7.30, Yes attendance is taken.

They would encourage participation, but not expected, you can type in your questions and responses either, if you dont want to speak.

Generally only one teacher per evening and one subject, some of them though that teach more than one topic, might do half the evening on one and the second half on the other.
