As long as I can remember, any time I received medication in Tablet or capsule form Ive been unable to swallow them whole.

If I receive tablets I have to chew them up and with capsules Ive had to pour the content onto a spoon of directly into my mouth.

If I do try to swallow tablets or capsules whole using water it wont go down, it seems my throat simply rejects the idea.

    Anyone else have this issue?

Put them up your arse, crush and snort them or crush , dilute and inject them.

    You're welcome.

I have to take something like 16 tablets over the course of the day, every day, I'd be kinda screwed if I couldn't swallow them! :D

With teeth like these it shouldn't be difficult to chew them

Some people find taking tablets whole with yoghurt or petit filous helps. Some tablets shouldn't be crushed because of the coating they have on them. Worth asking pharmacist if there's a liquid or dispersible equivalent.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Ive no problem in Chewing up tablets which I do for pain killers and stuff but I cant simply lob a tablet into my mouth and send it direct down the hatch.

Not me, I've swallowed more magic pills than this little fella :pac:

Back in the day though we did prank my friends brother by telling him you had to chew ecstasy pills, which he duly did for about 2 or 3 years.

Seeing as you have trouble swallowing an Anadin OP, you're probably blissfully unaware of how diabolical that is:D

don't take just one sip of water and take the glass from your mouth.
Keep the glass to your mouth as though you are about to continue drinking.

I'm the exact same, I can never swallow a tablet no matter how small with water
The only way I can swallow a tablet is with food and even then it can be hit and miss

I was the same way for years but eventually got passed it.
I put the tablets right at the back of my mouth between my teeth and took a big drink. Took a while to get it 100% of the time but these days I’ve no problems.

I used to, especially capsules. What works for me is just standing up and walking and focus on something to take my mind of it.

That is hilarious and vile in equal measure. I do wish I was still back in those days so I could do the same though.

Even the mushies were bad enough and you could be confident they weren't full of god knows what.

Yeah, I'm the same. A bit of bread and wiggle the pill around with the bread to time the swallow without biting into the pill.

It must be all in the head but I rarely have to take any so haven't bothered to try sorting it out.

I think I see where you're going wrong - you're not supposed to swallow them...

If I'm taking something with water, I usually take a sip beforehand and then before taking a second sip I throw the pill(s) down. My mouth and throat assume the second sip is en route so it's no problem.

Dry-swallowing is another matter, to be avoided.

It's mind over matter. Think of the food you swallow with no difficulty and compare that to comparatively tiny tablets or capsules. Don't overthink it, put them in your mouth, mouthful of water and just swallow, it really is that simple.

The trick is to tip your head forward as you swallow. It sounds counterintuitive but this actually opens the throat and allows the pill through. The tablet is much more likely to stick in your throat if you tip your head backwards. You're right, it is all in the head, if you can swallow food there's no physical reason you can't swallow a tablet. It some sort of mental block that some people have.

Big mouthful of water. Tilt head forward as you swallow. Down the hatch it goes.

When I was a kid I had difficulty but not as an adult.
If you chew your E it's meant to work faster!

I'd grind and snort if you were that desperate for the quick fix. Jaysus even the thought of chewing one :(

Just last week i Nearly choked On an iPad.

That's because you're not meant to swallow them; you just place them over the affected i.

I had trouble swallowing tablets as a kid.

But the "trick" I think worked is to believe the tablet is much larger than it really is, imagine it's the size of a grape. You then consciously over compensate.

I’m exactly the same. I’ve always been hopeless with tablets of any kind, no matter how small they are!

It’s definitely a mental block I think. If I try to swallow, I actually get a gagging reflex and the tablets come right back up again.

Taking them with food is the only way that works. I take mine at breakfast every day. With some bread. That way I can convince myself that I’m just swallowing a normal piece of food. Silly, I know, but it works for me. Most of my life I never needed medication but in recent years having developed Rheumatoid Arthritis, there is no other choice.
IF I need an ordinary over the counter painkiller I always use soluble Paracetamol or Aspirin. It’s a lifesaver!
As I type, I have an anti inflammatory injection here ready to inject myself. It won’t cause me a thought!! Would rather that than swallow one tiny tablet.

As another poster stated, I also find that walking or moving around helps to take the mind off it while swallowing.
If it’s any help you can buy a little gadget in any chemist which can either crush tablets into powder or can split a large pill in half or more ..I used both of these but the bother of using it put me off. Also most pills tasted pretty awful in powder form so I quickly gave up on that!

It’s good to know I’m not the only one with this issue.
