    Hi All,

Looking for a bit of advice on the best way to fit pre finished solid oak skirting to a plastered wall in a new build? Would you use nails/screws or adhesive.

Any recommendations from the experts would be appreciated!

i had mdf skirting fitted but the carpenter used nails and glue, don't know what the nails are called, but they would be barely visible

It depends on how true the walls are in my experience.

If the walls are good you can just glue it on and maybe use a couple of well placed tins of paint etc to keep it tight to the wall. You don't need to worry about small gaps as you will be caulking anyway.

If the walls are bad you might need more support than the tins can provide and so will need to fix it to studs, typically by nailing it in though you could screw via a counterbore and plug the holes (use scrap skirting to make the plugs)

With solid oak this is what I would do.

Mainly all solid walls apart from one room which we used insulated plasterboard on!

    Cheers All!
