    Hi Folks,
Daughter looking to buy a Microsoft Surface Go 8gb.
On Amazon Spain this one is €499.

However the seller also sells this one for €549.

I tried looking at the specs for each one and comparing, but I don't anywhere near understand the differences if any.
Would some kind knowledgeable soul be able to help me please

Is the operating system the difference https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/may/03/windows-10-s-microsoft-faster-pc-comparison

Definite pros and cons to the one with Windows 10 S

Cheers had a read of that site thanks and by the looks of things the S is no big extra.
When I check the technical details on each model, there are a few differences which I would not have any knowledge about pros or cons tbh.

    Examples would include:
Description of hard disk: SDD for the €499 model and Hard disk Flash for the €549 model

Type of wi-fi is different and optical disk on the dearer one but not on €499 one

I think both those are lost in translation?

SSD is flash HDD and the wifi seems to me to be the same on both if you check all the 802.11 variants which have different names that mean the same thing.

Optical disk? Both specs say None but in different ways.

    Tipo de disco óptico Keine
    &
Tipo de disco óptico No aplica

Can't work out if the CPU is identical in each but suspect it is.

    they are the same model

you definitely want the 8gb and 128gb model

the 64gb model is too small storage wise and it's not an ssd but flash memory. also has 4gb ram which is not ideal obv

just a note is that the go is really a second device. too small to be used as a primary personal computer imo

Cheers for that. She is getting it for college (going into 3rd yr doing science) and reckons she needs something lighter and faster than her laptop.

Which one of the two would you recommend

it's the exact same model (8gb ram, 128gb ssd and 4415 cpu) so I'd go for the cheaper one

    https://www.amazon.es/Microsoft-Surface-Go-Ordenador-port%C3%A1til/dp/B07FFVXZR1/ref=sr_1_1?m=A2XOC34F7KPTGN&marketplaceID=A1RKKUPIHCS9HS&qid=1559160248&refinements=p_4%3AMicrosoft&s=merchant-items&sr=1-1#productDetails

you'll need to buy the keyboard separately.

buy don't buy it (the keyboard, not the actual tablet pc go itself which is universal) on amazon spain or you'll get a spanish keyboard layout

could take a look at this laptop for 549 euro

it's 1.6kg so not as light as the go (nowhere near but still what I would consider portable) but a much more usable size screen for working for longer periods. same goes for the keyboard size. cpu more powerful also.

    https://www.currys.ie/ieen/computing/laptops/laptops/hp-pavillion-14-ce1507sa-14-intel-core-i3-laptop-128-gb-ssd-silver-10188781-pdt.html

could go in to pcworld/currys and see if it suits size/weight wise

could be a big difference if the current laptop is a big (2kg+) unit

as I said working on a 10 inch screen and the smaller keyboard like the go is imo not ideal for more than short periods.

actually it has the same cpu as the go.

    my mistake

but it's enough for most common pc uses

so it's the same spec as the go in terms of ram, storage and cpu but in a more usable size.

edit I must be going blind it does have a better cpu - the 8145u i3 as opposed to the pentium 4415u in the go. the similar digits threw me off.

Do not buy the Surface Go. Its a stupid proposition (same as the Core M surfaces). Putting full blown windows on an ultra low power tablet is like trying to tow a 40ft behind a micra. If your budget is locked to that area go Android or get a laptop like above.

The 4415u with 8gb is not super low powered really. Runs perfectly fine in laptops.

It's the size that is most limiting factor

Cheers folks yous have been a great help. Going to go to Curry's at weekend to actually see them in the flesh so to speak.
Was chatting to daughter and it is something small she is after as she will still use her laptop and computers in college for heavy duty work.
Something the size and weight of a tablet are importantl factors in what she will get

yes - would work as a secondary device well enough.

I wouldn't want to be typing a really long piece on it though.

there have been some offers occasionally on amazon uk for the device with keyboard combo

alternatively buying second-hand on ebay is not a bad option.
