    Hi

We have a leak in our boiler, called someone out to service it, and they say its needs replacing due to limescale build up.

Its only 4 years old and we have a water softener. Could the build up occur that quick?

Boiler had been serviced last year and the year before.

I’d be getting a second opinion! I assume it’s still working ok with a slow drip leak ? The boiler isn’t still under warranty?

Yeah it seems to work fine. There is a slow leak, a small puddle (couple of cms) some mornings. The warranty apparently doesn't cover hard water build ups.

For now. Put a bowl or bottle down to catch the drips if you can. Regarding the warranty , did your plumber tell you that or was it the manufacturer?

It seems to be part of the manufacturers (Vokera) T&Cs.

Limescale buildup isn’t really an issue in a heat only (non combi) boiler unless there’s a leak and fresh water is being constantly introduced into the system. Chances are it’s sludge buildup, no powerflush done originally and no magnetic filter at the boiler

Where did the gas plumber say the leak was coming from?

If it's a mynute HE boiler it's probably from the rubber hose vokera used for connections.
