Playing Abroad Solo

So im travelling to Portugal in September with quite a large group on a non-golfing holiday. Its for 2 weeks however and will have plenty of time to get a couple if not more rounds of golf in.

Thing is, nobody in the group plays golf, but could probably have a swing at it (pardon the pun). So could bring the hackers if they were up for it or go play solo. In relation to trying to play a round solo is it a case of contacting a club and see when they could squeeze me in with someone on the day? Never played abroad so would love to give it a go. Hoping to bring my own clubs.

Played solo abroad once in portugal. Hadn't intended on playing but called up to a nearby golf course and they weren't long sorting me out. they gave me a tee time where there was a free slot. I'm sure most courses would try and sort you out.
    It's all about the money!!

Years ago I used to sometimes go to Portugal for a week on my own and play golf every day. Got paired with different groups every day and had a ball. Met all sorts of interesting people. The only thing I'd say is if you're booking a round, ask to be put with some english speaking people. Can be a bit awkward when nobody else in your fourball can talk to you.

Try these guys out. I’m a member. Play twice a week. You’re guaranteed a Fourball.

They are able to talk to you. Its you who can't understand them.

    Good job clearing that up.

I played a few times in Spain solo and always asked to be joined to a group. Always worked out well enough, sometimes better than others but nothing to put me off doing it again.

For everyones sake (especially my own!) I would play on my own rather than with a group of non golfers!
They are likely to get very bored chunking it in the hot sun for 4+ hours.

Thanks to all for the suggestions, giving I will be there for nearly two weeks the society Finlay HArp suggested looks promising

Go and look in all the local pubs/bars. Most of the English speaking themed ones will have a society going, or will know who to go to.

I tried a few local clubs a few years ago, I was on my own, but quoted upwards of €150 by the time clubs, grub etc included.
On the last nite there, a local told me the Irish pub (i always avoid 'oirish' pubs) had a twice a week game, all welcome; food, transport, clubs provided for 1/4 of the price.

Apologies for asking a similar question.

I’m looking to play a round in vilamoura next week.
Does anyone know if the hotels organise things, tee time, transfer...

Also, when renting clubs is it just the clubs you get? Balls, glove etc Must be bought?

Generally just the clubs. Sure bring your glove

Most will offer you deals on balls in my experience

I rather bring my own clubs tbh. Its cheaper as you can pack as much as you want including a dozen balls, golf shoes etc

A cheap travel cover from sports direct will pay for itself in no time
