Knowledge of Dublin and surrounds

    just wondering how do people who must have a good knowledge of Dublin
    eg Taxi / bus drivers , especially those not from Dublin , learn the geographical layout of the city and surrounding area??

    I am trying to increase my own knowledge , rather than completely relying on google maps and the like. Is there like a A-Z App/Online - that you could practice on , I'm thinking , if someone wants to go from say , one side of city to other ...
