MacBook Pro vs Pro with touchbar

My Son has a MacBook Pro the old type, 2012 mid model. 15 inch retina etc.

He needs a new one for college, is there a big difference between touchbar and non touchbar.

He is looking at getting 13inch model with retina with 256gb

Appreciate help.

I wouldn’t go for a touch bar again. It’s a gimmick. Put the difference into a HD or RAM.

Worth noting that the extra USB C ports mean there are ports both sides of the chassis - which is particularly handy as you're also using USB C to charge the laptop.

I have the Touch Bar on my Macbook pro. I dont think Ive ever used it
