Timing belt replacement interval, MK5 Golf GTI

    Hi,

    What is the timing replacement interval for MK5 Golf GTI 2.0 TFSI?

    It was last changed in Oct 2013 with 69k kms.

    It now has 119k kms on clock.

    I plan on doing it this Oct (6 years).

    I believe VW have extended the time basis intervals on these.

    They are 180k kms or 5 years, so you are due again by time, being so under by mileage though, I wouldn't be too worried putting it off until October.

    Hi,
    Going back to this, my thermostat rarely rises above 75 when on the move and will rise to 90 when stopped in traffic.

    When the timing belt / water pump are being done would it cost much to get thermostat done at the same time (Is stat near where these are in engine).

    Car is DSG so I know that there are 2 x thermostats.

    Thermostat is traditionally a cheap job and easily accessible, not sure about this car in particular.

    The intake manifold has to come off so its worth cleaning that when its off.
    350/400 is what I paid Daltons 2/3 years ago.

    Timing belt 450e in main dealers last year.

    This ^ What Mr. Brown finger is talking about is cleaning the deposits of carbon that build up around the inlet ports - these engines are notorious for it, i had it done by Daltons on a previous car and it made some difference.

    What I would really like to know is when my mechanic is doing belt and pump, is the thermostat around the same area of the engine?

    The intake manifold does not have to come off to access the main thermostat just the alternator and some small stuff but does add additional labour time .

    The DSG cars will have the main thermostat and 2 small inline thermostats which id recommend doing aswell .

    I maybe wrong but last time I checked timing belts were inspection only after first replacement

    What should I expect to pay to get belt and pump replaced?

    My mechanic (VW Specialist) quoted me €435 for continental kit or €500 for VW kit.
