Is my silage starting to head out?

    Just wondering is my silage starting to head out? I usually wouldn’t be worried about quality but this year I am, here is a attached,planning on cutting next week

    Pick a few plants and tillers and get a stanley blade to disect the outer leaves and see how far the seed head is up the stem. Im sure google will throw up growth stages for Prg?

    I wouldn't get overly worried about it. Stick to your plan. You'll get some grass varieties heading out before others. So long as majority of crop isn't out. Most likely isn't.

    Going by those photos it doesn’t look like it has headed out? The whole field is like that,my dmd should be high if I cut next week,and what should I be expecting it to be?

    Low 70s. Anything over 70dmd is good silage regardless of what some might say. And is realistically achievable.

    So by this day week around 71 or 72 I should be aiming for,planning on cutting after dinner,wilting it in 10s and picking up the next day after dinner,do you wilt?

    What day you going to cut? Looks showery next week. Would like to cut next week too.
