So both Irish riders in the break today along with alot of riders

Will UAE hang on to pink?

Will Astana or Movistar attack from far out ?

What can S Yates do ?

Will we see some GC guy fall apart on the tough climb ?

    Lots of questions

Dunbar in Dunne in the break of 20+ riders with about 3 minutes over the peloton.

UAE got a man up the road, smart move.

Breakaway is growing all the time and no one chasing

Good opportunity for Dunbar to have a crack at a stage win. They reckon this break will stay away now.

Looks like it will stay away alright

Some good climbers in the break ...hard to know who can take it ...probably a very good descender as well as climber

Eddie Dunbar has a real chance here esp if he can ride with Polanc and Cataldo as they will look for time

Does Eddie have any chance with this group?

    17km to go

my heartrate is slowly going up

Dunbar needs to go before the final hill...

How many are in the front group?

Seven up front I think. Was that the finish they passed earlier in the day? Narrow and steep.

    It's OK - found a stream!

A podium here would still be a cracking result for Eddie.

I think they will hold on, the stragglers might catch them but the main group are very unlikely.

Steep gradient at finish suits Dunbar

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,523 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

5km out, the chasing group are going to struggle to catch on that hill so they may stay away off the front. One or two of the first chasing group are no longer concerned about catching by the look of it. I don't think Dunbar is looking as strong as Carlton thinks but he could also just be playing up to the others so he can have a decent break.

Dunbar drifted for a bit when he took a turn on the front but maybe he was just acting tired, he is looking OK now. Climb is just starting

    Dunbar is chasing

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 25,523 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

He is closing it down, and looks more comfy than them

    Savage stuff by Dunbar

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,256 ✭✭✭MPFGLB

If it had ended on a climb Dunbar would have won imo ...strongest on climb (blocked in ) but not at sprint

Next time though ...lots of stages yet to try

Ah ****e, some ride for his first GT. Can't help but wonder how he would have gone without Benedetti and the trek lad coming back at the end.

No shame in that finish, he'll have other days.

He knew they were coming from him looking over his shoulder so much but the way he was staying at the back no matter what, I think he knew that he had to let it happen if he was to have a chance, must have needed more recovery, nonetheless, still a decent sprint, he just didn't have that final jump when he was closed off. Great finish for him, the way he bridged over on that climb was beautiful. If he had not been at the back at the start of the climb, I think he could have won, but it would have been tough.

Dunne looked like he had a couple of juniors pass him on the line.

Well done Eddie! And also a good performance from Conor Dunne too!

Dunbar "I was the strongest but not the quickest" as I thought

It was actually, I was surprised to see him where he was at the end. Well done to him.

Super stuff from Eddie. I see he is only 2.38 off the white young riders jersey now. Is that a realistic target for him?

I dont think so ...with MAL, Carthy and Sivakov

Better to ride for stages ...which he can win

Super result. Hard to be critical but possibly hesitated a little too much on the final hill. His best chance was probably to go over the top with a gap but maybe he didn't have that in the legs.

Watching in work and was it a bit of hesitation but also his way was blocked a little?

He was fairly fresh looking with 20km to go - was worried he be goosed at that stage with all the effort he put in.
