Sky box or built in?

    Hi

I have an LG smart 4K tv. I have a sky dish on the roof and it’s wited directly into the tv giving me ok free view. I have also got a digital aerial giving me Hd Irish channels.

I’ve been offered a sky+ box from a friend. Is there any advantage using a sky box for freeview instead of the build in satellite?

    Looking for opinions.

Depends on which box he's offering.

The hd boxes won't have itv channels in the main categories. You'll need to tune then into other channels. Bit more tedious to find them them to watch.

Main advantage of sky box will be that you'll have 7 day guide. That's it I think

No. If you can set your TV to UK region you are likely to get full Freesat - full 7 day guide with series link. Connect a USB hard drive and you should have limited recording.

Sky boxes will not record and pause etc without a Sky subscription. Quite frankly unless you are planning on taking out a Sky subscription you are better off with nearly any third party box - the Freesat features in your LG TV will be better.

I also have an LG 4K TV with Aerial & dish connected.
I've a HDD plugged into a USB port on the TV which gives me recording functionality on the TV. The LG DOES do 7 day EPG although it can be slow to update but in theory its there. The ability to record any FTA SD/HD channels which are available & customize the EPG to how you prefer. So as ICDG said, unless your going with SKY, the box really isn't any addition.
