I want to connect a tv in my bedroom, have sky q & a spare sky box, how do I find the cable from the sky dish that is in the wall in my room, there are about 6 cables coming from the dish to inside the attic, the rooms are all wired for TV's.

Is the cable from the attic hidden behind the bedroom wall or does it come to a TV point in the room, is there a TV wallplate, sorry not clear from your post?

Hi, The cables are just in the attic, I have access to them & the cables are piped to the bedrooms, yeah there is an ariel connection in the bedroom, I just don't know which cable is going to my bedroom,

If you have SkyQ the second box in the bedroom does not need to be hooked up using satellite cable as it will be wireless thats one of the major benefits of SkyQ.

Although not clear for the OP I assumed the spare Sky box would be used for free to air viewing.

As you say a Sky mini-box will be required to view the subscription channels from the main SkyQ box, which of course connects wirelessly to the mini-box.

If you have access to a multimeter you can do a continuity loop check, at one end of the cable join the centre core wire and the outer metal braid together - at the other end check for continuity with a meter.

The other way would be to connect each room cable to one of the sat feed cables and check for a signal on the satellite receiver, more time consuming unfortunately. Is there anyway of following the route of the cables to the room from the attic, it might be a way of narrowing down which cables you would have to check.

The cables come out from the dish, then under the insulation so I can't tell which cable goes where

Do the cables goes direct from the dish to the rooms or are the dish cables sitting in the attic for future connection to the room cables?

Now, I think they are sitting there for future connection

Correct a SkyQ mini box is the easiest way to go and will give you the best quality with the simplest installation and access to all your channels like the main box downstairs. Saves you messing around in attics also.

I refer you to my post above, this is the time consuming part where each room cable will have to be connected to a dish feed cable and checked with a sat receiver in the room, but this only needs to be done once with each cable labelled identifying the room. It would be an easy job for an installer if you want to go down that route.

This of course requires a monthly charge.

Of course it will but is the best option. Now if the OP wants a free option that is possible but certainly not as seamless as the SkyQ solution.
