As mainstream news media becomes more and more irrelevant they seem to be trying to make the news themselves.

Prime time last night ( did not see all of it) Miriman saying immigration has not become an isseu in irish politics why is this? then the program proceded to they and make it an issue, anyone think this is not a good way to go.

I think they take social media too seriously.
They are TV shows that need to fill air time. So asking viewers opinions, showing a slew of tweets or asking viewers to send in footage captured on their phones makes life easier. The TV poroducers literally all sit together in a room and try to think of things to fill air time.
There being an abundance of material from social media its an easy and lazy fix. They try pass the often trivial or false as news, see MoMo and the like. Trump's team are amazing at using it.
