Bigotry

I was in a pub in Portadown earlier. I had a pint of Guinness but barely finished it as I was being stared at and muttered at. There were Union Jacks and Ulster flags everywhere. They had obviously discriminated against me because of my Dublin accent. I just came up for a pint. I was confronted by a man who came up to me and said "your type is not welcome here". I generally got a feeling of threat so I decided to leave after the pint. I walked to where I had parked the car at Rushmere Shopping Centre to find that it had been egged.

I live in Dublin and only came up with the intention of having one pint, and I wasn't stopped anywhere and I'm safely back in Dublin now. What I will say is that I don't see why this still going on. This is why I started a thread in what should happen when a united Ireland happens to people like these. I just went up there for the one pint and got verbally abused and then I find my car egged.

Why is this type of thing still happening?

If somebody could please explain why this type of bigotry still exists?

The pub was in Portadown town centre and I parked the car at Rushmere shopping centre and walked, how could they have known I had parked if there's?

The only reason I went to Portadown was to have a pint and I was attacked for it.

    Why?

Bigotry is part of humanity. As long as there are people, the shall be bigots

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Driving. I had 3/4 of a pint and I walked to Rushmere Shopping Centre - an EXTREMELY long walk of at least 10 miles if you look it up on Google. I'm home without incident.

    That's Wild.

Did you go on your own?

Yes. I have to go to a wedding in Cromarty in the morning at 11am so I will have to be up very early hence the pints at 9pm and the long distance drive to kill time.

Your response to bordeom was to go to Portadown?

Could you not have chosen somewhere more exciting? Limerick Junction, say?

Like I said, I'm just getting used to the long drive as I have to go to Cromarty for a wedding tomorrow and be there by 11. The ferry is at 8 so I should be there just in time.

Different people egged your car. Separate incidents.

Wtf were you thinking going into that pub. Ordering Guinness too. It sounds like you went there looking for a reaction.

Why did you go all the way to portadown just to have a pint?

It happens because they're invested in it.

There are already plenty of scumbags in the Republic of Ireland. SFA happens them for the most part.

I would say why would you want people like these to be part of your country... You'd hope Ulster protestants would counter the influence of the Catholic Church if it did happen - but looking at the policies and popularity of the DUP, you'd lose hope about positive social reform.

    I'm a bigot.

I'm prejudiced against Walter Mitty attention seeking spoofers.

Genuine question if the ferry is at 8am I likely to be in Cromarty by 11am?

Genuine question but if the ferry is at 8 today will I be in Cromarty for 11? It's my niece's wedding.

Honestly OP, you could hardly have picked a worse town on the entire island to decide to drive to for a pint - well there are quite a few towns up in Norn Iron which are packed solid with bigoted Neanderthals, including Portadown, Ballymena, Larne, Carrickfergus and Antrim town.

Portadown is a complete sh*thole. Fact.

Unfortunately up North you have to be rather careful where you decide to drink outside of Belfast city Centre. Consider it a lesson learned.

...or I’ve just wasted 3 mins of my valuable time on a troll thread.

No chance whatsoever. The crossing time is 2 hrs; you'll leave Stranraer about 10 am with 1 hour to complete a drive that would normally take about five and a half hours.

You need to travel to Cromarty the day before the wedding. Easiest way (though not the cheapest) is to fly to Inverness and hire a car.

If you get the Sea Cat or any other type of catamaran you'll be over the sea in no time, just don't get the older ferry types as yer talking about a three or three and a half hour crossing.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

Hope you make it to Scotland OP!

Sorry you had that horrible experience. Can't have been too nice.

Even if he crosses the sea instantaneously, that still leaves him three hours to drive to Cromarty. It can't be done..
