I walked the silage field today, it fit to cut but I noticed purple on the tips of the grass. What would the cause of this be?

Frost burn from harsh east breeze last week ,will lead to high oils in grass and low butterfats if grazing dairy cows

It can mean you've too much calcium in the soil compared to the other elements.
    Magnesium, Boron, etc.

The calcium ions block the (arteries or whatever they're called in the plant world) and stop the flow to the outer extremities of the plant.
