Gigabit SIRO Digiweb

I have 1000Mbps SIRO connection from Digiweb. I was very satisfied with them but not anymore for past 2 months. Since getting connection I was easily reaching D:980Mbps/U:330Mbps. For past 2 months I'm barely reaching D:200Mbps/U:200Mbps. Digiweb technical support wasn't able to resolve this issue after 2 hours spent on the phone talking to them. I used Cat.5e cable, now replaced all cables with Cat.6 (ONT -- Router -- PC) but without any luck. Now I'm thinking of cancelling this contract, because they can't provide the broadband speed I signed up for. This fault comes from their side, as my equipment is not causing any faults. I'm IT Support Specialist with 12 years of experience so I'm more than sure it's all their fault. I highly don't recommend them to anyone.

    Hi,

how did you manage D:980Mbps/U:630Mbps when the SIRO product only is 1000M/200M ...

Unless you're on a business product .. of course.

I have it for my personal use at home, no business involved. I've made a mistake in previous post, it should be U:330Mbps (max I could get), not 630. Sorry for that. I found a pic on my phone from one of the tests I took at the very beginning of my contract. Unlucky me I can't add it, I'm registered here from yesterday.

SIRO has a max upload speed of 200 Mbit/s with the 1000 Mbit/s download package so whatever you are using to test your speed is inaccurate.

Ah yes, that line... Invariably, means there's a bit of Jon Snow in you.

    Digiweb Siro Resendital is 1000/200

Upload could not have been 330
Its 200 and that is what you are getting

Use Speed Test on Digiweb website

When testing have only PC wired connected to the fritzbox router as in 1 device
Make sure PC has gigabit lan connection and is connected using cate 5e or Cat 6 cable
Also make sure no programs are running that use data as in torrent software etc and keep watch on any programs that has heavy cpu or memory usage as that will affect speed result

Download speed will be 750 to 950 with average of 800

If any other devices are connected you will likely have reduced speed test result as they might be downloading or uploading at the time

200 upload is incredible, on the OpenEir Network the max you get is 97 and that's only if you pay for the maximum 1000/100 plan. Hopefully OpenEir will improve the download/upload ratio later this year.

Unlikely. No interest on their part. It would eat into their NGN income. SIRO does it, because they have no other products, that compete with what they do.

For anyone who has Siro installed by digiweb. The esb meter box is at the side wall of our house. Kitchen is on inside of the wall. Am I right in saying they’ll fit a grey box next to meter box?
And is it possible then to run cable along external wall (5m max) and drill into sitting room wall to fit internal connection ?

It should be possible, as long as enough fibre cable was chased through the ducting for the 5 metre run.

Actavo came out to install my box and ONT etc, but they said it wasn't them who chased the fibre through the ESB underground ducting.

Just got digiweb siro installed (1000mbps) and 5 meters from the modem downstairs with the below speeds. I assume should be much better?

It should be a lot better. Are you using wired or wifi?

Thats wifi, and its literally beside the modem. Wonder is there anything i could try before geting on to support.

That looks like you may be on 2.4GHz n rather than 5GHz a/c.

What modem did they give you?

What device are you using to test?

They gave me the Fritzbox 7530.

Im testing on a Lenovo p50 laptop.

You should definitely be getting more than that.

Only thing I can of is the laptop has latched onto the 2.4Ghz band.

Even with the smallest 20MHz channel on 5GHz, you should be seeing around 110Mbps next to the modem.

It's also possible the Fritz is using a 5GHz channel above 48, these are DFS channels and a lot of devices don't like latching onto them. Only way to know is to log in to the Fritz web interface and check.

Im testing on a Lenovo p50 laptop.

II the the P50 supports 5ghz then do the following before calling support.

    1. Connect the laptop to the Fritzbox 7530 using an network cable (one should be supplied with the modem).
    2. Log in to http://fritz.box. The login password consists of letters and numbers.
    3. When logged in. click on WiFi on the left hand side.
    4. Click on WiFi network.
    5. Scroll down to "Active frequency bands".
    6. Untick the 2.4ghz frequency band and tick the 5ghz one.
    7. Click on save.
Close out of the modem settings, disconnect the network cable from the laptop and let it search for the fritzbox. If it finds it enter the WLAN network key and save it. Try your laptop again and you should see a large improvement in your speeds. I recommend using www.speedtest.net for the tests.

Let me know how you get on.

Nice improvement. However if you test on other servers like Blacknight (Carlow) for example you will potentially see faster speeds.

Siro installers generally recommend and use Blacknight for testing.

Out of interest did you do a speed test while the laptop was connected to the modem using the network cable?
