Jetta boot lock problem

    Hi All,

I have a 07 jetta and am having problems opening the boot manually with the outside handle. It used to be an intermittent problem but stopped working completely recently.

I can however open using the key fob and pressing the boot release in that.

Will I need to replace the complete boot latch, or is there just a switch that I can replace so I can open it manually from the outside?

I have same problem with 08 Golf.
Apparently the boot latch is a known issue.
Could be the latch itself or could be an electronic issue.
I replaced the latch to no avail so seems to be the wiring, mines intermittent too

OP, just as a matter of interest is your rear window heater and rear wiper working okay?

I had an issue with a 2007 Skoda Octavia rear boot latch a few years back.

It could be a loose wire in the actuator , can you take off the trim panel and inspect the locking mechanism?

Id get it fixed sooner rather than later, usually lots of wires broken on both sides and can cause some damaging short circuits if left.

Do you happen to have a pic of the exact area you're talking about, I think I know which part but want to be 100%

Sure it looks like this: there are two of these, one each side

You'd have thought VW would have mastered wiring the boot from the body reliably. Not exactly a new concept at the time.

Rear window heater is working fine. I don’t have a wiper

I had this problem once (hence my username from back in the day). I let the back seats down in my 2001 Bora, then climbed in the back. Took the trim apart and I must have knocked a wire back in place, because it started working again. Unless you do the same and see if anything obvious is loose maybe?

Cheers must open it up and take a look

I did the same and worked a treat. Removed all the trim, then disconnected and reconnected the wires to the locking mechanism and now all working again 😊

Polish lad disconnected the solenoid in the father's Octavia, he just uses the key to manually unlock it.

It's not just them, I had to replace the boot wiring loom on a ford focus for the same reason. It was an easy enough job, and because it was a common occurrence, it was easy to get a new OEM part from a ford dealer for a surprisingly reasonable price (and they had it in stock so no waiting round for it to be ordered).

My passat boot is acting the maggot too.
Sometimes it won't close and I get this repetitive clickity click vibration sound when I try to open it.

Now it's looked solid, I'm not going to touch it until after the weekend as I don't want to be driving around with a boot that's wide open.
Prefer it locked to be honest.

As it wasn't closing last week then eventually it would close.

    This will be no help to hedgelayer but might help someone else down the road;

My wife had the "opens when it feels like it " issue with her focus hatchback and, as money was tight the month it happened, I took the trim off the boot, stripped the lock and tied some twine onto the mechanism so we could open it if it failed completely.

If the lock fails with the boot closed you may not be able to remove the trim to get to the lock so you will end up damaging it just to get to the lock to replace it.

I had to use the twine as by the time we had money the lock had failed completely in the closed position. Its not a huge job on a a focus, you need Allen keys, torx keys, screwdriver set and I think a socket set
