How do PAS civil service panels work? Refused one job already

    Hi,

Could anyone tell me how the PAS panels work when declining an offer?

I'm on a panel and I declined a position earlier this week. I assumed from the information on the PAS website that my refusal meant I would automatically be removed from the panel. However, this afternoon I got another offer but no information was volunteered other than the Dept name (the Dept has several offices so I've no idea even if the commute would work). I asked for more information and Im waiting to hear back.

It would be really useful to know the panel rules if anyone has any experience in this?

For HSE panels at least you can refuse offers and retain your place on the panel for future offers for the lifetime of the panel (generally a year or two). They will just give the job to the person highest on the panel who is actually interested in it.

Indeed if you accept an offer for a temp post you actually still retain your place on the panel for permanent positions.

It's only if you accept an offer and withdraw at a later stage that they remove you from the panel.

The only issue with refusing or ignoring offers to the panel is that you never know how many, if any, future offers there will be.
