I’m connecting via Heathrow (Phoenix - Heathrow - Dublin).

If I buy a bottle of gin in duty free, can I bring it through Heathrow, or will it get confiscated?

When you are buying it explain that you are transiting through London. They will put it in a special sealed bag that you cannot open until you reach your destination.

Get them to place it in a tamper proof bag in Phoenix duty free.

And Heathrow just treat it as a normal liquid then? Grand. Thanks. I don’t know if I will want to buy anything, but the option would be good.

Had vodka confiscated at LHR when transferring from a flight from Newark to a Dublin flight , bought it onboard the BA flight and it wasn't put in a sealed bag so was taken at security in Terminal 5. Just make sure that when purchasing you tell them that you have a connecting flight.
I informed a BA manager at the gate and he gave me a £40 voucher for future travel !!

Edit : I also find that onboard duty free spirits are about a fiver cheaper than the US duty free shops.

I've found your local liquor store will invariably be cheaper than picking up Gin in US Duty Free. Many decent brands do 1l in a plastic bottle too.

I just stick it in with checked luggage & travel light, which is a godsend when schlepping your ass through LHR to make an early DUB connection.
