Isn't the fingerprint reader meant to be a dog in that phone?

It got an update last week, meant to sort that problem out.

    Meant to?
But does it really? (Asking as I'm intrigued)

I can't comment as I haven't used the phone unfortunately. :) Hopefully though! It's a nice piece of kit and would be good value for money with it working smooth.

Another note to mention, Three seems to offer the 4GB RAM version where as the EGlobal (285 ish including delivery) has the 6GB. Might not make a difference to you, but just to mention.

I see that the A50 gets the thumbs up from Flossy.

Got one today as my new work phone. Its very nice and impressive for a "budget" phone. I have an S9+ as my personal phone and I have to say it holds up well in the main areas.

Screen is excellent, not had any issues with the fingerprint reader and its even dual sim with 128gb native storage.

It's definitely a huge step up from the A6 2018 I was using.

How's the A50 going now a few weeks later Kaiser? Is the battery life holding up? How's that fingerprint scanner :D

For me after a few weeks it's better than that shocking mess of a one on the P30 Pro. That said, give me a proper one on the back any day.

My usage probably isn't typical as it's my work phone so in general it's used sporadically throughout the day. As such the battery is lasting me a few days :)

The fingerprint scanner is poor though. Takes nearly 2 seconds to unlock and placement is fiddly. Personally I much prefer the rear positioning on the S/Note 9.

Those points aside though it's a decent phone. Screen quality is decent, no issues with the performance, and it's certainly the best work phone I've had anyway.

That's what I'm afraid of. Even my Mate 20 Pro, that I sold today, in screen was OK at best (I did love the facial recognition though)

Picking up an A50 in an hours time!

I'm trying to download My Vodafone App to monitor my data and minutes, but in the Play Store it says the App isn't compatible with my device and there is no button to click install etc.

It's a dual sim model bought in Czech Republic airport. All other apps install fine and may play store region is Ireland. All other apps download fine.

You might need to reflash it with Irish/VF firmware from sammobile.

Mine definitely has that app installed and it's the dual sim version

I'm going to get one of these next week, I get a regular upgrade to a "mid range" phone, so this seems to be the best available at the moment (has to be available from Vodafone)

I think you can get €55 off Samsung for having one of these phones

You need a proof of purchase, and bank details for them to transfer to.

i bought one for my daughter - its a lovely piece of kit. Definitely feels more plastic than an S series phone, i have an S9+ to compare it with, but the screen is really sharp (and big), 128 Gb as standard which is great for that price bracket, dual sim and the 55 Euro back just makes it very good value. I have processed the cash back, its very easy.

How’s the battery and fingerprint sensor?

I’m thinking of changing my 6s to this, I’d imagine this would blow away even a new 6s for battery life.

As others have said, the fingerprint sensor is a little hit and miss for me, that could be because i am just not using it enough, but my daughter says it works fine for her, and she also uses the face recognition which works well too.

I think that the battery life is very impressive so far, really really good. At least as good if not better than the Nokia 7 Plus that is also in the house, and its a known quantity when it comes to very good battery performance.

And the screen is really good, very bright when required.

How are ye finding call quality in terms of volume and clarity? My father has been offered the A50 as an upgrade on his old A5. He's 64 and has been struggling to hear what people are saying on the A5 for a while now so this would be his main priority at the moment.

Try this. Reteach your fingerprint but ignore the graphic on the phone when you're teaching the fingerprint. Lift finger up and down until you reach 80%. Only then should you teach the sides of the fingerprint.
See video below (for S10 but same principal applies)

Just an update, 8 days later with my A50.

Overall very impressed. Battery life with moderate to heavy usage is approx 1.5 days. Bought some extra Samsung fast chargers to keep me going in the misses house and for in the car, obviously not as fast at charging as my previous Mate 20 Pro but Huawei are one of the best in the game for that, I was spoiled with them!!

Fingerprint - I'm not going to say poor, just very slow compared to every phone I've used that has it. I only use it on banking apps and it works 9 times out of 10, for unlocking the phone its face unlock (I love it) with a combination of a pin for low light/night time.

The aesthetic is great, thin and light, got a glass protector and a clear basic silicon cover on it. I've heard people saying the screen is too big for them, check out YouTube videos or in store for size, I've big hands anyway so doesn't bother me.

No lag, albeit I've no animations on in developer mode. I've the 4gb ram 64gb storage dual sim model.

Connects flawlessly to the car bluetooth for spotify and calls. Call quality is excellent. Speaker is loud, average quality.

Overall I'd rate the phone about 8 out of 10. I got it on adverts for 220 euro so definitely excellent value for money, even on Vodafone with the cash back deal at the moment it is well worth it.

In hindsight, the 6gb Ram/128gb version would be perfect for around the 300 mark, but I'll keep it for a few months anyway till another A series tickles my fancy!

Could somebody confirm if their Samsung Galaxy A50 has NFC (near-field communication)? As some variations of the phone in some countries don't and some do. The ones eir/3/Vodafone/Carphone Warehouse have on display don't seem to feature NFC, however, each staff member I've asked from the different sores have said that it does, in fact, have NFC.

Mine does but it's from abroad.

Edit - demo models have limited functions anyway. It definitely has NFC

I got one last week from Carphone Warehouse on 3 and it has NFC.
