    Hi,

Permission has finally been granted at home, to get rid of Sky & to replace it with Freesat. We already have Freesat in the house, but am looking for a Freesat Recorder, that can also record Saorview.

Has anyone across such a device?

    Rgds.

No, unless you roll your own.

Totally down to rights issues. So not getting sorted anytime soon , or ever.

FreeSat boxes only show now/next on non-FreeSat channels and when in that mode recording timers may not work. SaorSat has a FTA EPG but FreeSat boxes ignore them.

Italian Tivusat uses a decoder card to prevent foreigners seeing the non-FTA channels on the mix.

Same people designed FreeSat, Saorview Connect and TivuSat.

Freesat is a satellite service (requires a satellite receiver).
Saorview is a terrestrial service (requires a terrestrial receiver).

A freesat receiver cannot record or receive terrestrial channels.

Thank you. I was hoping there was such a thing as a box with freesat & terrestrial tuners within.

    Thank you Captn,

I guess it will be two boxes. Am looking at a Humax box with a 1TB HDD.
But I like the sound of the Saorview Connect Boxes bringing in additional channels from the net. Am going to read up on this further.

And I am looking at the chance of picking up a Freeview signal from North Wales. From the roof of the house, I can see the see - maybe, just maybe.

I am in Bray, I cannot get a reliable signal, an aunt 5km down the road in Greystones gets a perfect signal on an aerial fixed to the porch of a bungalow, Best of luck.

The Saorview connect box does not have 7 day epg for satellite channels, just now and next. Therefore no series link and the only way to set a future record is to manually set a timer.

You should look at rolling your own like a Tiviar Alpha, check out this thread, there are 2 different backup images making setup easier. They are becoming scarce though.

These also a new contender called the Zgemma H9S 4K but there is no backup images yet.

The work in “rolling your own” is very light. Anyone with an interest in Computers should have no bother. My teenage nephew, who has only a passing interest, set it up in an hour. The effort is really worth while, you can watch and record a far greater range of channels than the combined Freesat/Saorview combination.

No, about the same height, Bray head gets in the way.

Bray Head blocks the signal for you? Which transmitter is your aunt's aerial pointed at?

I'm curious as to whether it's possible from where I am in Greystones village (you can certainly see the sea from upstairs), I asked an installer some time back but he reckoned it was unlikely unless you were up high and had a pretty big aerial.

Haven't looked in a while but I think BBC 1 was on 53 or 54 and ITV was on 43.

Hi STB. Do you have a Saorview Connect Box?
What in your opinion is so bad that you feel the need to slate?

Maybe 100 pages of this thread has an influence?

You don't need a Saorview Connect box to read the thread. I've followed it and I definitely wouldn't be buying one as it's crippled from the get go without 7 day satellite guide

This tread originally asked is there a device that can Record Saorview and Saorview Connect can.

You are 100% correct about the EGG on satellite.

Nope, the op specifically asks for a Freesat box, see title. The main feature of a Freesat box and it's main selling point is the 7 day EPG it provides otherwise it would just be a generic free to air box

    Definitely not.
I do not tend to spend money on crappy devices if I can help it.

It needs to be stated again ....... there is no such commercially available device as a
    "Freesat Box with Saorview"
    They do not exist.

A properly set up and configured STB as explained in the Tiviar thread is probably one of the best available.
No limitation on what FTA channels are available such as found with Freesat.
    7 day EPG
All recordings in the clear unlike some commercial STBs which protect HD recordings.

...... and no I do not have a Tiviar STB either in case that matters to you .....

Perhaps having shilled the item, you may as a supposed sales member of the distributor and brand name want to read purchasers experiences with this box. 2,875 posts to read.
