Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Reporting Crime. Would you or would you rather keep quiet?

I'm interested to know whether or not people would report crime or not. We know there are trouble spots all over the country and people are too afraid to get involved in reporting crimes which is understandable due to the nature of violence these gangs use. The Guards tell us they cant act on a lot of things without an official complaint from somebody. So what is the answer?

Personally, I'd like to see the Guards getting much more in the faces of criminals but my nephew is a Guard with 10 years experience and tells me that if they put their hand on any of these little thugs, there is a complaint made and they spend the next 6 months worrying about the outcome. So again I ask, what is the solution?

    You're obviously an impatient person.

And your nephew needs to stop worrying if he's done nothing wrong.

Yep, I've never been charmed with patience

I'd like to see an auxilliary police force like some other European countries have. Not the Garda Reserve as it stands, but a full on paramilitary outfit that can restore order to the streets.

No point spending all that money training young men on the finer points of the law when all you need is to put a billy club in their hand and tell them we've got your back.

Except that didn't solve the problem because we still got criminals coming through and still had people fighting.

We have the law, we need more mules on the street and judges to sentence properly.

And going back to your Op, report everything. Otherwise officially it never happened.

Like drugs and public order offences, if Gardaí are not out detecting then the figures fall. Has drug use or public order issues gone away? No. Just nobody to record them.

More prison space is what's needed. Everything else is irrelevant if there is nowhere to put criminals. I agree that crime should be reported but folk are afraid of repercussions because they know the guards cant protect them properly

I’ve had my car broken in to twice in last couple of weeks but I’m not going to report it because it will get nothing done in this country. When I catch the fella responsible, I’ll deal appropriate punishment and the Gardai can be called then to powerhouse what’s left of him off the pavement.

You reckon you'll catch the person responsible?

Unfortunately I've very little faith in AGS, and I've a few mates in the organisation. My own experiences with members has been over whelmingly negative to a point now where I just won't engage with AGS unless I absolutely have no choice.

I also watched members attack and beat up my neighbors and friends during the water protests and that will taint relations with AGS in some communities for a very long time.
