Just found myself between jobs and thinking about an adventure at short notice. I'm 37, will probably be traveling alone. I'm thinking about a some kind of short, backpacking type adventure to consider as a sensible option. I'm not into beaches etc and I like to kind of keep moving. I can give it 7 to 10 days and the more keenly priced, the better (bang for buck, basically).

    All suggestions appreciated.

Around holland. Mixture of tourist with scenic with industrial. Bit of everything.

Or just try getting around Ireland on public transportation, that’ll take 7-10 days

A quick Google got me this; https://www.interrailingpackages.com/packages/accomodation/hostel/duration/10/

Otherwise, can you sleep in moving vehicles? If you can, look at sleeping in a "sleeping car" on a train. Look around a place during the day, and then goto bed, only to wake up in a different location. Prebook them for cheaper prices so you save yourself the cost of a hotel and don't waste time getting from A to B.

Where you flying from? One of my mates last year went Dub to Amsterdam (flights can be expensive), train to Cologne, Train to Munich and then flew home from Vienna (I think).

Use google flights and go Dub to Europe on your date youre flying, do the reverse for return trip and then train between the cheapest?

    Balkans

I agree with this. Just back from Vilnius and Riga. Good bang for buck and plenty of culture n good grub too. Lux Express operate bus routes from most cities so you don't have to totally rough it while 'backpacking'.

Ah my mistake, thanks for the geography lesson! The Balkans does sound like a great shout though. Happy planning OP

Greek Islands. Fly to Athens and take it from there!
