Phone scammer solution?

I think I may have found a way to discourage these scam callers from calling back. I now keep a sonic rat repeller beside the landline. The repeller has a button on it that when pressed emits an audible eardrum splitting tone. As soon as I realise I'm talking to a scammer I hold the repeller against the mouthpiece and blast away. They usually hang up within seconds. Couple of months back I got a call from someone with an Indian accent telling me they were from "windows" and they had detected a virus on my computer. I said, okay, what should I do? So she started waffling on about something and asking me various questions. I held the mouthpiece away from my mouth so my voice sounded very faint. She kept asking me to repeat what I had said because she couldn't hear me. Now I know most of these scammers usually wear headsets when they call, so I told her to turn up her volume control. I don't know whether she turned the volume up or not but about 15 seconds later I blasted the repeller into the mouthpiece. The last thing I heard from the caller before the line went dead was, "Aaaaaaggghh".

Answer all calls by saying ‘Hello, Dublin Police...how can I help you?’

    They’ll then blacklist your number.

‘Hello, you don’t mind if I record this call for use by the police......click’

    Works every time.

Doubtful it works down the phone.

They don't. And neither do whistles. They would have with old exchanges but not the current digital exchanges.

I imagine you could write a phone app to do that too.

I know on Android there's a "Dog Whistle" app, where you can change the frequency of the sound and give yourself a bit of a hearing test.

But really, keeping them on the line as long as possible hurts their wallets/bonuses more.
