Cat Teeth Cleaning

does anyone here have experience with getting their cats teeth cleaned? What price range would it be ? And what if they need an extraction ?

Hi floraldream, I ask the vet yesterday as apparently my cat need to have his clean too. The price depends on his weight. So mine is 5.5kg so

Ive been using PLAQUE OFF - one of my cats the vet said, needed her teeth cleaned, and maybe one tooth extracted. I started giving dogs/cats Plaque Off every day in their food - lovely clean white teeth all round - when the vet saw the dogs teeth last time we were in the surgery, she called in the vet nurses to see his sparkling white teeth, she was so impressed!! Cant recommend it highly enough. MUCH cheaper than a cleaning appointment, but more importantly far less stressful for cat and me!

Hi, where did you buy it? I was thinking to get it on zooplus.

I bought it once at a vet surgery - its over the counter, and Ive seen it in Pet Supply shops. It seems expensive for a little bottle, but it lasts for months. Do try it - its brilliant, nothing buy seaweed - add to their food, using tiny spoon included in bottle - causes reaction with the saliva. There is a cat/dog one, and a cat only one - seems the cat only one has some flavouring/enzyme or something that cats like - Ive got one super duper fussy cat, who doesnt notice it when I add it to her food - their teeth are so plaque free/white now, I add it to their food several times a week rather than every day which I did for the first 6 months...

Sounds like something I might add to my own food!

I called a vet to asked if they were selling plaque off. They weren't but were selling canident which seems to be an Irish equivalent.

It is a bit more expensive(17€) than zooplus but if adding the delivery it is the same and it is a bag of more than 100g.

Hello! Sorry to resurrect this thread but I have some cat dental questions somebody might be able to provide experience or wisdom about.

Every evening religiously, I sit down with the poor cat and gently clean his teeth. He is very well behaved for the cleaning, although he obviously absolutely hates it. He would let me do absolutely anything, because we have total trust in each other. He's an angel, it's adorable. The last trip to the vet, early this year, nonetheless resulted in twelve extractions.

I just finished cleaning them this evening and I noticed that the tip of his right front canine is going black. I think it was the day we rescued him, he was a tiny kitten and he bit the top of a pint glass (smart cat) and chipped that tooth. We were told by the vet it would be fine years ago, but now we have to go and get that looked at tomorrow. I don't know why they didn't just extract it at the start of the year seeing as we just have to go back to the vet now.

Does anyone know what can cause it? Googling it indicates some sort of dangerous dental disease that will spread to his organs and kill him. He's not in any pain whatsoever, in top form and his grooming habits are fine.

It's good thing you're taking your cat for teeth cleaning. I didn't send my cat to one and now i think she has some dental problem.....sighhh

Odd that you clean his teeth - hes SO cute - my cats wouldnt let me do that in a million years - and he still has such problems - maybe he had a problem as a kitten so his teeth arent great? Did the dentist offer an explanation as to why so many extractions? How old is your cat

I use PLAQUE OFF which is a seaweed product, you add to their food, which reacts with the cats saliva and prevents plaque building up on the teeth causing them to go bad. The vet suggested that one of my cats teeth was suspect, and to bring her back for a check and possible extraction. I started Plaque off that day, and her teeth are all fine now. I also give it to my dogs
I believe there are other similar products that help with plaque - def worth a try.
