Ebay seller's delivery deadline is same as Paypal dispute deadline

    Not too big a deal, but I ordered a small item for a couple of Euro from a seller with good feedback, back in March. Item never came. Waited 'til the seller's stated delivery window expired before putting in a claim (on the day of expiry) on the purchase, only to find that Paypal wouldn't let me open one due to it being 45 days since the purchase.

    So, as the title states, the deadlines were the same. I don't know if this was deliberate, but it seems like awfully coincidental to me. And when I contacted the seller about it, they told me to open a claim. When I explained that I didn't know how this would be possible, I received no reply.

    Chalk it up to experience, I suppose, but it is annoying. Seller has subsequently updated their delivery window to one working day less than it was.

    Just something to look out for for any of ye buying small items with no tracking. How would you proceed in this case?

    i thought it was 180 days to open a claim with Paypal?

    Well, when I go to open a claim, I get a message saying it will not be possible because it's been 45 days.

    Googling my problem, I saw people discussing a move to 180 days, but it was a discussion from 4 years ago. They must have changed it back.

    Do I have to file a PayPal Buyer Protection claim within a certain timeframe?

    Yes. The first step is to open a dispute within 180 days of your payment and try to work out the problem with the seller through the Dispute Resolution process in the Resolution Center. If you're unable to resolve the dispute, you can escalate it to a claim with PayPal within 20 days of the date the dispute was opened. Thereafter, the dispute will close automatically and you will not be eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection coverage. Learn more about PayPal Buyer Protection.

    Ah, yes, I was mistaken. I was getting the Paypal buyer protection and Ebay problem resolution mechanics mixed up. It's the Ebay problem resolution which has a 45 day limit. I got into my Paypal account and was able to open a claim on the purchase in question, so hopefully it works out. :)
