Was in process of digging to put in flowerbed when I hit the drainage system which I had thought was under the path. The join to the kitchen waste is the section that I hit. My question is is it a big job to replace this join or is it possible to patch the existing one? Thanks.

Can you post a picture or two, it depends on what it looks like/ if its clay pipe etc etc

It looks like "all" you broke was the junction, so thats all you will need to replace...however 1 side is under what looks like concrete, which is going to really restrict your movements...
I would expect that you are going to have to dig up a few metres either side of the join to give yourself some wiggle room to attach a new joint.

Confirm the correct diameter, but you will need one of these https://www.wavin.com/en-ie/Catalogue/Rainwater-Stormwater/Subsurface-Conveyance/U-Drain/PVC-U-U-Drain-Branch-92deg-110-x-110-DS

and then hope you can wiggle it into position. You should hopefully be able to attach the section under the path first, and then tilt the joint down to each of the other pipes in turn to attach them, (hence why the more of them you expose, the higher you can lift them to get them since you have going to have 2 inches of "excess" once you get the first of the last 2 pieces in...

    Good luck!

You need 2 repair collars a new T piece and 2 pieces of 6 inch lengths of 4 inch sewer pipe .
Clear the area around the pipe junction about 2 inches under also .
Cut the straight part about 4 inches from the t piece on both sides.
Insert repair collars with lube back to original pipe ends
Fit new t piece with the 6 inch pipes inserted on each end
Slide repair collars over joint. Job done .
Or else patch a bit of duct tape over the damaged part then throw a bucket or two of concrete it
Cover it up and say nuthin...

tbf, fixing it with collars is probably as easy as concreting it in and will certainly be easier then trying to maneuver it all together.

    OP
    Thats a repair collar

Thank you both for your help, will go with the collars suggestion. Didn't know there were such things, boards is great knowledge source.
