Hopefully simple enough question! Our water is heated by oil central heating but is extremely hot. And tank seems to be noisily boiling away most the day. How do we adjust the temp? (We’ve Grant vortex boiler) thanks :-)

Do you have a thermostat at the side of the hot water cylinder? If so turn down to 60°.

Go to the oil boiler theres a thermostat on the boiler. Turn it all the way down and then back up 2 or 3 notches. That would be 65-70°

Do you have an immersion? Make sure it's off if using the oil to heat the water. No need for both on.

Do you have another heat source solar or a stove that heats water?

Test with oil boiler thermostat down. If it's still too hot turn down more but it may also indicate the stat may be faulty or out of sync.

Thanks for that. When hubby gets home I’ll get him to check boiler.. hot tank doesn’t seem to have thermostat- just valves and pressure gauge..

See the insulation on the tank? The green coating, USUALLY there will be a gauge cut into it, or at the very least attached via a chord wrapped around it. Have a look there, the gauge will have a dial on it which you can adjust accordingly.

Are there any other wires going to the tank or on pipes , perhaps in behind? The wire going to it is from immersion.

Do you have a timer for the heating/water? By any chance is the stat for one of the zones somehow tied into the water? Unorthodox for sure but not unseen. Although it makes little sense.

I would make sure that the Immersion heater is in fact switching off. That on/off switch could be sticking.
The boiler thermostat could be sticking.
If immersion switch is working, and boiler stat is set to lowest and cylinder is still overheating, then boiler stat has to be at fault.
