I fancy doing something like this on the June bank holiday :D

Would anybody recommended a good one to get to flying from Dublin?
Ideally one with the least travel as I'd only have 3 days.

    Thanks

I've been on two of them, both in Germany. They are great fun but I can't say I've ever planned a whole holiday around them! :)

I've been on the Kolbensesselbahn in Oberammergau (Bavaria) and Sommerrodelbahn in Gutach (Black Forest, Baden-Württemberg). The one in Oberammergau is better but is quite expensive (€11.50 or €11 with guest card). It was worth it in my opinion. The views as you go down are great.

If you were to stay in Oberamergau (which is a beautiful town), you can get there by train from Munich Airport in 2 hours 45 minutes.
Oberammergau is quite small so you might be better off staying somewhere like Garmisch-Partenkirchen (bigger but still very picturesque). I spent five days there last summer and there are lots of things to do and day trips in the surrounding area such as Zugspitze (highest mountain in Germany), Ettal (Abbey and Linderhof Palace), Neuschwanstein Castle. Garmisch actually has an alpine coaster as well but it doesn't look as good as the one in Oberammergau.
Oberammergau is only a 40 minute bus journey from Garmisch-Partenkirchen. It's free with the GaPa Card which you get if you stay in Garmisch.

The alpine Coaster in Gutach (Black Forest) is excellent as well and is significantly cheaper (€3.50 or six trips for €16). It's about 2 hours 40 minutes from Frankfurt Airport by train (stop is Gutach Freilichtmuseum). There's plenty to do in the Black Forest if you like the outdoors. The Black Forest Open Air Museum is located beside the alpine coaster and is well worth spending a few hours in.

There's lots of nice towns which are within a 30 minute train or bus journey from Gutach including Gengenbach, Hornberg and Triberg. I stayed in Gengenbach two years ago and it's probably my favourite of the many towns that I have stayed in throughout Germany. It's around two hours from Frankfurt. If you stay in any of the small towns in the Black Forest (the aforementioned ones included) you get free train and bus travel throughout the Black Forest region with the KONUS guest card.

Both of the alpine coasters are great, although I preferred the one in Oberammergau despite the extra cost. I only went on that one once though, with the one in Gutach you can go on it a few times without paying too much. Perhaps since you only have three days, the Black Forest might be a better bet as there is so much to do in the Upper Bavaria region, three days really isn't enough to enjoy it properly.
