Good investment if you get a decent one and have a bit of work to do with it (that said there is always something you can do with them).

A lot of costs involved if you are buying someone else's problem though. Especially check for wear and tear on the front axle and then also wear or looseness on the back actor. And watch out for oil leaks as well.

Best jcb digger to buy is the 88-92 models. The newer style 94-98 models give trouble. Mainly radiator issues. I have a 1990 3cx. Does all the feeding, digging and stacks bales. Still does roughly 900 hours a year. Main things for you to look at is the torque in the forward and reverse and the engine. I had to do the torque in my digger 5 years ago. It was burnt out. Cost 6k to get it redone.

    Hi David,
Love the conversion to dairy posts you put up, fascinating to see it in so much detail and to see your rationale for making decisions. Fair play and best of luck...

Replying here as I'm going to view some jcbs today in o Neills in carlow and elsewhere, some 88, and one 96. Any advice. I see you mentioned radiator issues on the 96 model, what sort of issues are they do you know... Are they inclined to get hot. Just want one here for tidying around the land, clearing some furze and briars, uproot the odd sceach or willow, hang gates etc. Tia.
