A grave headstone is obviously the most common way to memorialize a loved one.

Are there other common ways to do the same.

Just back from holidays and there were sponsored benches about the place, for want of a better description.

"Jerry loved this place" that type of thing.

Are there similar things in Ireland.

Or are there other ways to memorialize loved ones.

You could maybe build them a pyramid or something.

You can certainly do the bench thing here in Ireland.
    Presume contact local county council.

Not sure where you live but some parks allow you sponsor a new tree in the person's name.

You can keep their decorated skull if you have any links to Asmat or Dayak heritage. Definitely a talking point for dinner parties.

Plant a tree in their honor.

I have done this many times over the past 30 years and as the years pass I think of each and every one of my loved ones whenever I see the trees in all their glory.

If your loved one is cremated then you can turn their ashes into a diamond to remember them by.
When a person dies, cremation is an increasingly popular option. The practice eclipsed burials in the US in 2015 and is expected to make up more than half of all body disposals by 2020, according to the Cremation Association of North America.

But instead of storing a loved one's cremains in an urn or sprinkling them outside, a growing number of bereaved consumers are doing something more adventurous: forging the ashes into diamonds.

This is possible because carbon is the second-most-abundant atomic element in the human body, and diamonds are made of crystallized carbon. Researchers have also improved ways to grow diamonds in the lab in recent years.

While at least five companies offer a "memorial diamond" service, Algordanza in Switzerland is one of the industry leaders — its services are available in 33 countries, and the company told...

Mix their ashes assuming they've been cremated in Tattoo Ink and get a nice memorial tattoo.

Ive done it with a flower in the garden. One that stands out from the rest.
Makes me make an effort to care for them and its always nice sitting out there of a sunny day seeing the different flowers for different loved ones.

Rename e.g. the planet orbiting Iota Draconis (type K2 III) after them.

It’s only 101.2 light years distant from Earth in the Draco (Constellation) neighbourhood.
This involves editing a wiki and hoping no one notices, or posting a brown envelope if they do.

Best to use an ancient Summerian translation of name, so not to offend any locals there.
This could be tricky as may involed a lot of squiggly trianges with arrowed lines and a clicking sound.
