Has there ever been such an interdepartmental competition before?
    It seems strange!

Yes there was one after the last ap campaign too. I think then it was serving aps and the top 300 from the open only could apply. Have not seen the dper circular for this one so not sure of the eligibility requirements this time around

Top 439 of current AP competition that have made it through to 3rd stage.

    All current APs also eligible.

Anyone doing the AP Higher? Seems there is a video interview where they ask you 3 questions. They are similiar to those asked on application form - anyone know if you can use the same answers that you have on your form?

I’d say you can use the same examples. The best bit was the message from PAS which said that if they don’t like your policy/strategy answer they won’t watch the full video!

They are only calling the first 30 placed to the next stage - fairly low number. There is no indication as to whether more will be called or how long the panel lasts.

For the last competition they placed almost 50 on the panel, not sure how many were interviewed to reach that number. The panel was almost exhausted within 18 months of being formed.

Email with confirmation of placing on the order of merit has been sent out. They don't mention if a panel is being created or if they are pulling off the panel on an 'as required' basis from the 3 central Departments.

To the best of my knowledge, both PER, Finance and Taoiseach have an internal AP Higher panel so I'm unsure how they'll manage, or if they'll pull off the inter Departmental once their internal panel is extinguished. Any views?

Usually have to pull down in sequence (Internal, Inter-D etc). If they already have an internal AP Higher Panel, they might owe some to the Inter-D panel.

How did the interview go? Any tips or hints?

    Thanks for the clarification.

Interview went well - they sought examples for the competencies not included on my form and also asked me a number of direct questions on minor details on my application form (first role post college etc.)

There were also a number of the standard questions regarding areas where you have experienced conflict, role of central Departments etc.

My interview was the complete opposite. Very tough questions, focused on challenges in the role and they stuck solely to the examples in the form.

There are so many variables with these interviews I think. You can prepare answers for 100 questions and then get 2 questions you never thought of!

Anyone know how many were placed on the panel roughly from the 30?

Any news on movement on this panel?

I imagine it will follow the current AP 2020 competition but that is just guesswork on my part.
