    HI folks,

I have a Zipp disc, 10 spd Hub however my new bike is 11spd. What are my options to make this work, obviously changing the hub but i'm not sure what model Zipp I have & If that can be changed.. would machining the 11 spd cassette be an option? Has anyone had similar scenarios! Any help appreciated

i think the latest generation shimano 11 speed cassettes which fit onto 10 speed hubs are all 34 tooth ones, they use the extra space afforded by the largest sprocket to hang the cassette closer in to the centre of the wheel.

Is it that particular model of Ultegra HG800's or just that one specifically? Looking to keep 11/28

I’m Open to correction but I believe all of the new Shimano (105 7000 series and Ultegra 8000) cassettes will all go on a 10spd hub regardless of ratio!

I think it’s as magicbasrarder said above - it’s only the 11/34 11 ratio cassettes that will work

Managed to miss that myself, every day’s a school day!

Correct. I have this cassette on a 10 speed DT Swiss hub and it works perfectly with Ultegra R8000 11 speed drivetrain. But as said above the biggest cog must be 34.

it's only since the latest generation of groupsets came out that this has been possible, R8000 was the first with the option i think.

    I don't think so.
But, machining the freehub is certainly an option.
There was a thread on here about it a while ago, but I can't find it.

Yes, you can machine the back of a cassette. You can't with Dura Ace (carbon carrier) but you can with Ultegra. I have a Zipp Sub 9 10 speed running this way. Or you can machine the zipp free hub... or you can put a campag zipp free hub on it and use it with a Campagnolo 11 speed cassette perfectly on your Shimano 11 speed groupset.

Or you can buy an ecdo 11 speed cassette for 10 speed free hubs.

    Loads of options.

Super thank you!!! Where could I get the cassette or hub machined? I presume that’s the cheapest option

I got lucky, the guy I bought the sub9 for was a metal fabrication engineer and he did it. He had the necessary equipment in work (in the UK) (I could give you his email and you could ask if he would do your cassette for you, I don't know him beyond that one transaction, but did retain the mail address)

When I did similar except to the free hub on a 404 a friend here (in the south east) did it. Not the tidiest job, bit of a diy effort but it did work.

If it were me and you didn't know anyone handy with a grinder, I'd probably go for the Edco. Although at 200-ish, they are pricey.

    I stumbled upon this option

https://www.lascoconcept.com/en/11s-cassette/ Seems pretty good and cheaper than the Edco...

Get 1.8mm machined off the inside of the cassette (1.85 strictly). It’s soft aluminium and no bother. A machine shop should do it for 10-20 Euro - takes 5 min.
