Aer Lingus Group Check In

    Hi all,

Group of 10 travelling next month. Decided to buy seats for us all so we can avail of the 30 day check in so I wouldn't have to worry about printing boarding passes for 10 people while on holiday.

However when I go to try and check in, the times shown are still only 30 hours before the flight, surely this isn't correct considering it should be 30 days once you purchase seats?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks.

Ryanair let's you check in 30 days out if you buy a seat. Aer Lingus doesn't. You can always check in at the Airport if printing boarding passes is a problem

Can you check in for free at Faro airport though? I know in dublin they have the self service kiosks but as far as I am aware they don't in Faro.

Also I don't understand, aer lingus state if you purchase a seat you can check in 30 days beforehand, why would it be different for a group booking, its essentially the same thing.

Starting to wish I just went with Ryanair now.

Aer Lingus don't charge to check in! Sounds like Ryanair has cultured you to expect otherwise.

Ah okay, might just wait and check in at the airport so, unless the hotel can print them for us, what would be the procedure for checking in at Faro, just go to the desk with the reservation number? None of us have checked baggage.

Sadly I've never had to check in at the airport in the last 20 years :pac: God dam online check in.

You don't even need the booking reference. Just your passport.

There's no need to check-in online or go looking for printers. Aer Lingus (and 95% of airlines) are not like Ryanair, there's no charge for airport check-in.

The answer to why you can't check-in online 30 days in advance despite purchasing seats is on the Aer Lingus website.

"Online check in for group bookings, and bookings made via the Aer Lingus call centre or a travel agency, is available within 30 hours of your scheduled departure time."

Yeah upon further looking I noticed that, still dont understand why though, while it is a group booking, each member of the group has to check in individually and has an assigned seat, how that differs to someone that purchased a flight with say 2 - 3 passengers is beyond belief.

Anyhow, glad to know I can just check in at the airport. Handy to sit together so not a total waste of money on seats.

possibly because it would be a thankless task for a group leader to check in for a flight to the likes of Spain where you have to enter the passport details for each and every single person.

Better to let every person simply bung it in the aer lingus website and delegate the process rather than send it to the group leader (and the group leader manage that info, obviously GDPR compliant!) and the group leader enter that then into the airline website.

Thats the thing though everyone can check in individually all they need is the main booking number and their surname.

Same as anyone else checking in but for some reason because it was a group booking which means little anyways, you cannot check in till 30 hours before even with prebooked seats.

    Just doesnt make any sense.
