Delay with VRT....

Bought a 17 E Class from a Dealer (Had to be imported from UK due to spec requirements)

Went in for VRT 3pm slot yesterday. Dealer rings this morning stating that they can't register it for a week or two.

Car is ready to leave the dealers, I inspected it the other day after being serviced / polished etc.

Not a huge issue, dealer is giving me a demo car in the meantime to tide me over, most likely an 18 C Class, so will have same features etc. so I can get used to it.

There's some conspiracy theories going around, wonder which, if any, are true....
    1) Short staffed in VRT office (but it got a slot yesterday?)
    2) Revenue are cracking down on high-value / high-end cars due to money laundering (which we've seen in the news)

No point in this post other than i'm bored and wouldn't mind some theories being thrown out there.

They have to send the VIN off to Revenue to get a VRT figure back from them. They do this with such new premium brand cars in order to charge VRT also on any factory fitted extras to the car. It can take upto 10 working days for Revenue to get back with a figure.

Both of those theories are wrong.

All high end vehicles under a certain age go to Revenue for a manual valuation, it's been this way since 2010 . There is a backlog in the CVO due to the brexit rush a few weeks ago. Nothing more to it. It's a max 2 week wait at the minute (some take less)

What do revenue consider to be a high end vehicle?

Brexit is causing it, the rush will die down over the coming months until Halloween where it will kick off again.

You can drive it on the English plates till the VRT amount comes back and is paid
(If your inmsurance company will cver it) mine did and i am nearly 3 weeks driving now and waiting for word back from the Dealer when its cleared.

Similar scenario for me, I've been driving on UK plates for 2 weeks and dealer claims vrt is paid and even sent me photo of a draft dated 2 weeks back, yet still no plate number. Is that possible?

That's not possible. If he paid he would have the reg.

It's likely he's still waiting for the price to come back and just simply has a draft from 2 weeks ago.

I know this is an old post but I am in a similar situation at the moment and its been more than two weeks and there is still no news from the dealer as to when the VRT will be paid and when I can get the car. Anyone have similar experience these days?

    Takes 4/5 weeks these days

My brother got one though a dealer this week, arrived off the boat on Wed, deal done on Thur, car VRTed on Fri and collected this morning (Sat).

Get onto the dealer and hound them if you want it.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

There’s loads of factors and the above poster saying “Hound the dealer” is the type of person that will find itself at the back of the queue.

It depends if it’s a specific model that hasn’t got a stat code it could take a couple of days/weeks. Hold tough. It will come.

Thanks for sharing your feedback. We talked to the dealer on Fri and he said he got the stat code but no info on how much needs to be paid. It coudl be another days or weeks. I called the NCT centre as well and they said it could be up to 15 working days for the revenue to come back. I guess I just have to wait patiently. It will be sorted eventually, finger crossed. 🤞🏼

Was it a less than 4 year old Mercedes, Audi or BMW?

Once they have a stat code they usually are able to book it in and have it valued

Perhaps 'hound' might have been too strong a term, but the dealer leaving the customer for 2 weeks without any update is poor customer service.
