Was filling in some details on icbf site when I just happen to scroll down to discover my bull which I bought last October wasn't eligible. I only now realise he has to be genomic tested and his 5 star index "on paper" won't do.
As its too late to have him tested in time for end of June, is my only option to get another bull that is genomic tested and eligible?

I bought a bull there 2 weeks ago and thank God by reading boards its saved me a lot of money as the guy said his bull was 5 star so I rang icbf And he wasn't tested either rang yer man an you'd know by his tone he knew right well he wasn't tested if u test straight away u may have it back in 3 weeks I'd say ring icbf to get the figures if hes a good 5 star u might be fine

Same happened me. I rang icbf on Thursday and they told me if I get him genomic tested now and if he passes he will be in the next round of results to be published by icbf in July but they said dept said this would be ok he would be accepted for scheme for this year provided he passed.

Question what is chance that he wont pass

I had a bull I bred here, go down in stars when he was genomically tested. He's way behind in ratings compared to a full brother of his I sold last year.

    Thanks for replies.
Have hair sample in the post. Will try ringing icbf but have to wait till monday. It said on their website that samples had to be in by march 6th to be evaluated for June 30th. I may have been told before that bulls had to be sampled but icbf send out so much paper sometimes I only look at half of it.
Does anyone know how long that warning about bull eligibility is there on icbf where you enter bdgp details .
If I'd saw it there earlier I'd have sent a sample in straight away

Howaya Patsy. What was this bull's Star Rating when he was firstly genotyped?

Still 5 star for replacement within breed, but his terminal index dropped from 4 star to 2 when genotyped. A drop of €14.

Just rang ICBF got the same answer so it seems I'm in exactly the same boat. My bull was only 2 star replacement but 5 star terminal across breed - €138. with an index reliability of just 37%.

Am I right that he'd have to drop €28 to disqualify him..... Still a bit of a gamble since the index reliability was so low.

If I get my bull genomic tested by a private company would the results be back before the deadline of 30th June . If he dropped stars at least I could buy a different bull for the 30th June deadline

You'll have to ask the private company that question.

    Weathersby is one
If you do via icbf they get weathersby labs to do the testing for parentage.
Then you can get weathersby to do extra tests afterwards
