Star Wars!

The old popular culture phenomenon. There's alot of hype with this new Avengers film, and it reminds me that once that's over Disney are going to go into overdrive promoting Star Wars. I like a bit of Star Wars, but I hate having to see Kylo Ren and Rey's face plastered everywhere for 6 months.

I get that it broke boundaries in it's day, but I don't really understand the perennial hysteria that surrounds it 3 generations later. It's popularity and success seems immune to any criticism, and no matter how much some of the films are panned they will smash records.

There's been huge popular culture hits like Harry Potter in the meantime, but after their initial success they kind of float into the background as something new comes along. Not Star Wars though, 40 years later the juggernaut just keeps rolling on, with no end in sight

They bought it to make money.

And they are certainly going to make as much as they can. It'll be star wars ad nauseum from here on in, so get used to it.

And I say this as a massive SW fan in my day.

But I've grown up now. I'm not as anal about it now, but fun to watch my kids get into it the way my parents watched me do the same.

NIMAN nailed it plus oldies have drummed into their offspring how good it was so it's inherited nostalgia to a huge degree, makes for big business.

Like looking at Woodstock '69 through rose coloured shades, or thinking fighting in Vietnam was someway cool, like war in any form is acceptable.

I just want a day in a hughie.....
