Claiming married couples allowance

    Ok, quick question.....

I am claiming single persons tax credits even though I am married....
The thing is my wife is claiming careers allowance as we have a Down Syndrome daughter, and she is getting only half the allowance for the children, so they know she is married. My wife does not work and I was wondering if I claim the Married couples allowance would this have an effect on her careers allowance.
I also claim FIS as we have a large family, any help would be very much appreciated.

On the basis of your information, you're a one income married family. That would entitle you to the following credits:

    Married person credit: €3300
Either the Employee credit (if an employee): €1650 or the Earned income credit (if self-employed): €1350
Home carer credit (for your wife caring for the family, unaffected by receipts from Dept of Social Protection- see here): €1500
Incapacitated child tax credit (for the Down Syndrome child- needs to be claimed after medical evaluation. See here): €3300

You can also claim the standard rate band for a 1 income married couple of €44300 for 2019.
