Arghhhhhhhhh am I the only one that gets annoyed with recruiters and their tactics? I get at least 1 or 2 emails / LinkedIn requests a day and the way they come across is usually highly unprofessional.

Here is one from last night:

    Hi kingtut,

    I hope you're keeping well.
I have a super brand new role in for Cork. Please see the job spec below:
    XXXXXXXX
This is a great opportunity with a very progressive company.

My direct number is XXXXXXX. Are you free to take a call on this tomorrow at all?

I'll look forward to speaking with you.

To me this just reads as "I have the most amazing job, call me and we can talk about it". Umm I'm not desperate but thanks

    Or from this morning:

    Dear kingtut,

I am working with a consultancy that works specifically with clients that in manufacturing and packaging sites in regulated industries such as pharmaceutical, medical device and FMCG. From vials, blister packs and cartons to labels, packs and pallets, our systems inspect, mark, verify, Track & Trace components and their associated packaging, securing your supply chain.

I would really appreciate it if we could have a confidential chat at your convenience. Please call me on xxxxxxxxxx, or alternatively I can save you the cost by calling you at a convenient time if you are able to send me over a contact number and indicate the best time for me to call.

    (website removed)

€XXX per day 6 month rolling contract or perm salary of €XXXXX + benefits

I look forward to hearing back from you and potentially to speaking with you in person soon.

    Kind regards
    XXXXX

Makes me wish I could block all of them (or I might just delete my linkedin)

I'm not sure I see what the problem is there to be honest.

The second example in particular actually lists out the salary and day rate so you don't waste a reply saying "Who? Where? Job Spec? Salary?".

You can set your profile to "Not Interested / Looking" too, that way you are guilt free to ignore them.

I do always check to see if they are acting on behalf of the company or CV harvesting.

Seriously though.... I detest recruitment agencies, they along with internal HR are useless in my opinion. Parasites in the system. I deleted my LinkedIn many years ago. It was just a circle jerk of back slapping.

Not in the slightest. If I wanted to brag I'd be posting in here daily (and wouldn't hide the salary etc). Today is my first time as far as I'm aware.

The second email doesn't say where the job is, what the role actually entails or even where the job is located.

I do have my profile set to not currently looking for work but they don't seem to care and are clearly sending the same message to as many people as possible.

I have "Not open for opportunities" set on LinkedIn but they still spam me.
One even started "I know you might not be looking at the moment...", so they knew my contact preferences but ignored it.

Worse ones are where I'm based in Dublin but they looking for someone to contract or go to Galway/overseas. They have some automated system to spam LinkedIn based on keyword search results.

Anyways, just like a targeted cover letter impresses an employer, an untargeted blanket e-mail will not impress a prospective employee.

90% of recruiters are absolutely woeful. Im a contractor so am in/need to be in touch with them semi-regularly. The good lads are worth keeping in touch with, but are increasingly hard to find.

I have my profile set to not interested, and that seems to keep most of them away. However, what i ak seeing recently is indian guys with a "uk recruitment agency" either messaging on linkedin or calling from a london number, about jobs in dublin. The job is not really suitable for me and is usually tenuously linked to something on my profile, however they get quite aggressive when turning it down or get the hard sell on other roles. Ive just been blocking them as they contact me now, and ignoring uk phone calls. Anyone else had this? Im in IT btw...

Like I said I'm not bragging about anything.

Totally agree on location. I've had a few that were for overseas.

I did once reply saying "I have a backlog of messages and will get to yours in due course". Response was something like "the client is really keen to get you, the project has tight deadlines etc". Umm PFO!

Did you make your phone number public on LinkedIn ?
    How did they get it?

I'm fairly lucky that they don't have my phone number (or if they do they don't seem to use it as it's rare for me to get calls from unknown numbers)

Worse experience I had in recent years was when I had interviewed and got the job and the recruiter & I were negotiating a base salary.

But she never sent me a copy of the contract before telling the employer the base salary agreed. When I got the contract, the pension was not 5% of your salary but 5% of your contributions (€4k or so less), have to pay for your own parking (despite being outside of the M50), agreement to be stopped and searched... a real control freak policy for a small but not so nerw startup.

Anyways, I ended up telling her to stuff it, and I'm sure she got a bollicking from the employer on losing a serious recruit at the last minute.

I do too, I just hit that automated "thanks but, no" button and be done with it. Unless its something that I'd be interested in knowing the salary on.
I'm generally ok with them approaching like that.

But I can't abide by their rudeness in not replying when you tell them no.
If they've sent the job spiel in a connection request and they do that, I bin them.

No, phone no is not on linkedin. Im guessing its on a cv that is downloadable from somewhere, as is my linkedin profile url. Its usually either a linkedin msg direct, a call, or both

It's rare you would get to see a contract at the offer stage - it can take time to get these drawn up, especially in international companies that might have to liaise with departments abroad. It's also increasingly common to outsource the drawing up of contracts which can take weeks.

The base salary needs to be agreed before the contract can be drawn up (as it will need to appear on the contract), this is why she never sent it to you prior. The mixup in the benefits is a real annoyance and I can see why that (especially the parking and the weird stop and search) might be a deal breaker. But is this really the recruiter's fault? The employer probably didn't make the exact value of the benefits (or lack thereof) explicit with her, and she probably took an assumption that it may not be a critical factor especially if you never asked for an outline of the benefits along with the base salary when you were offered.

Either way the benefits issue is the fault of the employer and not the recruiter. If she deliberately misled you on the benefits - which I highly doubt would have been the case - then it's a different story. Telling her to "stuff it" is not a nice way to treat someone who helped you get a job offer even if it didn't materialise the way you wanted.

That's strange, did you submit a CV to other recruiters before? Maybe someone took a CV extract when moving companies or something.

I've only ever had a cold call once but that was on the work phone, played along got his details through via email and then handed it off to HR who put the company on a blacklist / ensured they weren't on the Preferred Supplier List.

I was just on LinkedIn and it reminded me of the biggest pet peeve of recruiters.
Thankfully this tends to be a London based thing but instead of posting the job with details they post a video of themselves talking about the role in a piece to camera. Works ok if they a) know the role and b) are somewhat confident of presenting it.

It crashes and burns when they're "uhming and aaahing", spitting out words from a sheet and pacing back and forth.

    Happened to me years ago.

Done 3 interviews for a company one with the recruiter with the company, one for the 1st manager and then another with the 2nd manager.

Got the job and talked money with the recruiter. Then the contract came it was for a agency!! And not the company!!.

Turn down the job on the spot as I was already a contractor and did not won't to take another one!!

I am thinking years later what a scumbag move this was
