Hi all, hopefully somebody here can point me in the right direction. I'm looking to get into Racing Sims, iracing has caught my interest in particular. I need to buy a gaming PC and have found two within my price range which I think will do the job.

I have very little knowledge about computers and hope to get the following two questions answered here:

    1. Will both of these computers be capable of running iracing?

2.If so which would be the better option and why?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Below I've posted both computers specs and the minimum spec needed as per iracing.com.

    Computer 1:
    Intel i7-4790k
    8GB Kingston HyperX Beast RAM
    Gigabyte GTX 970 G1
    Gigabyte Z97X-SOC Force motherboard
Corsair H110 liquid cooler with upgraded Noctua fans
    1TB Seagate HDD
    2TB Seagate HDD
    256GB Samsung 840 Evo SSD
    650W EVGA gold PSU
Phanteks Enthoo Luxe case with controlled exterior and interior lighting

    Computer 2:
    GTX 1050ti 4gb
    AMD 6300 sixcore
1TB toshiba sata III 3.5 hard drive
    120GB Kingston solid drive
ASUS B150M PRO GAMING MICRO ATX MOTHERBOARD
    16GB RAM

    Minimum requirements:
    Windows 7 SP1 64-Bit*, Windows 8.1 64-Bit, Windows 10 64-Bit
    64-bit Windows
4 core CPU or better – Some examples (but not limited to): AMD FX-6300, Intel Core i5-4430, Intel Core i5-2320, AMD Ryzen 3 1200
    8 GB of RAM
A gaming graphics card with at least 2GB of DEDICATED memory – Some examples (but not limited to): Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 @ 2 GB / GTX 1050 or ATI Radeon HD 7850 @ 2GB / AMD RX 550 or better
10 GB of free disk space (40 GB for all cars and tracks)

Comp1 is way better in every respect. It's not even close. The CPU is twice as good, the GPU is considerably better. What money are we talking about however?

Comp2 isn't worth more than about €250-300. Comp1 maybe €400 at most. Going on normal 2nd hand prices.

The specs also don't make sense. An FX6300 (CPU) and B150M (motherboard) aren't compatiable, completely different platforms.

Just some advice. Going straight into iracing is not advisable. It's a very expensive platform to invest in. I would suggest trying some other sim-like games first (Assetto Corsa Comptetizone is good, rfactor 2 also but is not user-friendly, Raceroom is free at base level and is cheap to buy more cars)

Just found a good video on this:

iRacing aren't very forgiving of n00bs either in my experience.

I'd recommend the original Assetto Corsa to anyone wanting to dip their toe in PC sim racing. At least you can mod it, and Sim Racing System is basically iRacing without the price tag if you need to scratch that online racing itch.

I never noticed this and I have been on it over two years, nearly everyone on there is respectful and helpful. I have made friends on it too.

Its a little expensive but worth it for the competitiveness of the racing, also endurance races are great as is some of the oval stuff you cant get on other sims. Look a guy can buy a wheel for a bike for 500 bucks, its all realtive, and you will spend huge hours racing on iracing.

On the PC front I would get #1 PC. Recently Iracing has been releasing new tracks that take more grunt to run smooth, I have a second hand PC myself that i upgraded with a 1060 card. Also running big grids of multi car racing it can stutter if your PC is weak in an area. #1 Pc here will have no issues on most settings.

    See you on the track.

Was hoping to keep the price below 1000. The first computer I mentioned above is listed at 850. As I said, I have very little knowledge about computers, so going by one of the posts here that seems overpriced. Still on the lookout.

€750-800 for the first build is fairly reasonable.
    Alternatively, build a new machine:

Really, 750-800 for a 2nd hand 4790K and GTX970? You'd get a PC way more powerful, new, with more modern parts and warranty for that money.

There's no point trying to claw value out of it because it has a half decent case, watercooler, etc. Fundamentally it's just not worth it.

Those sort of machines sell for 350-500 on Adverts, depending on the day.

    You would even get a prebuilt with a 2600X, RX580 8GB, 500GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 16GB 3000mhz ram for under €800 delivered.

€500 would be unfair IMHO, €350 would be outright theft.
Plus there's value in not having to bother building yourself.
