Following this as it's quite hard to even get succinct information on the web on this.

Or just amazon, usually just needs a basic sim card

Personally I'd avoid Aliexpress like the plague for this kind of stuff.

What features would you be looking for in the tracker and whats your budget? Would you like it sim based or an app/website to track the car?
Things like chipfox are cheap (relatively) and cost about 30 euros a year to the service then for about 300 euros with no subscription you can get something like that Sniper SelfTrack which will have features like remote shut off of the engine, tow alerts etc.

There is decent information out there but you have to decide the budget and features. If you even google either of those devices you'll find plenty of discussion about them

It's not the tracker that's costly, it's the monthly credit top ups and subscriptions to a tracking service that all add up.

Basic sim, only needs topup every 6 months i think to keep it active, and just enough to keep it active so even 5 quid every few months? it will report it's location just like your phone so can easily be tracked same as lost phone.

Just setup a calendar reminder every few months to check location to keep sim active.
starts at about 20 quid for the tracker

Most electric cars can be tracked and it is built into the car. You can do via app

Issue is now you can buy a blocking device. I see them for sale on facebook which you plug into the 12v source in car. It blocks all signals.

Tesco sim doesn’t require top-up every 6 months, just get the tracker to send location via txt every 5 months to keep sim active

If you have an old iphone lying around stash it in the car somewhere and track the car using the find my iPhone app...might do the job until you get a proper one if you are stuck

    Have a look at smart track.ie .

I have used these the last four years with no issues. App and support available.

Have family who use them for company vehicle tracking too.

One fitting fee of tracker and then a yearly subscription.

Give me a PM if you need any other details.

They're all made in china anyway.

Working in the industry myself. There's no need to avoid Ali for this kind of stuff.

The cheaper models do the same as any subscription one unless your getting into RF tracking which is a different thing altogether.

But avoiding AliExpress... Well simply not really needed.

Digging up an old thread but anyway...

Has anybody used the Halfords streetwise tracker? Its €55. I need to check up on a work vehicle occasionally for arrival times.
