    Hi all,

Just a quick one. I’ve made a doctors appointment but I want to make sure I’m asking the right questions etc when I go to see him.

I’m in my early 30’s, eat quite healthily and I’m very active. No medical conditions in the family.

Currently feeling really run down, nauseous and dizzy. I take multivitamins and my diet is good, drink plenty of water so it shouldn’t be a deficiency with anything.

Lately I’ve noticed my skin is quite bad and the last week I’ve felt weak and dizzy.

Also, and I know this sounds crazy but recently whenever I drink (3-4 bottles of beer) I get the worst hangovers that last 3-4 days. I know that comes with old age but I’m talking really small amounts once a month. Seems strange to me.

Any ideas what tests I should ask the doctor to do? Something that would be able to test for everything?

    Hi there

I have a lot of the same symptoms as yourself. But I have never got to the bottom of it myself.

It is probably something simple like your iron levels or vitiman d or something along those lines.

Let me know how it goes at doctors .

    Could you have vertigo?

Thanks for the response. Unless I’ve got it in the past few weeks/months then no. Never had this issue before

Will do. I want to get to the bottom of it ASAP. I’m just wondering is there any test that can basically test for everything?

Do you have a carbon monoxide alarm in your house? Do you smoke or have much exposure to fumes?

Feeling tired or run down could be attributed to a few deficiencies or hormonal problems but the nausea and dizziness sound like exposure to something.

Ask to be tested for Coeliac (blood test). It has an abundance of possible symptoms, some of which you describe above. Not everyone has the same ones, so it goes un-diagnosed in a lot of people.

I wasn't diagnosed with it til my mid 30s.

It’s unlikely to be that unless I developed it recently. Have had no health issues or any illness’, intolerances or allergies up until feeling like this a month or so ago

Probably not, but a lot of people don't have any symptoms at all, and some don't display them til later life. If doing blood tests, it's worth adding it to the list. The long term effects can be particularly nasty.

No there is no tests that test for everything .

Your doctor will check all the usual suspects like iron , thyroid, vitimen c d ect . He will check and see if it is just something common like that and hopefully just a simple fix . Fingers crossed it’s jsit something like that for you but if it’s not they will have to do a bit more digging .

With myself I am constantly tired . Never have much energy . Used to be able to have a few drinks and be grand but all changed a few years ago . Now if I drink my hangovers are severe and I’ll be dying for days . All my tests come back clear . I should be more proactive and should be getting bloods every few months to see if anything shows but I don’t . I usually try go one a year for a few different tests but so far nothing has showed and my doctor doesn’t seem to know where to look so it is disheartening and I hate going . Even though I know I should be constantly going until I get answers .

I’ll be interested to see what your issue may be so keep us posted .

No; vertigo is a very different animal.. Just got over a major episode and it is a case of severe vertigo. The medical definition is that dizziness is when YOU move; vertigo is when THE WORLD moves. I was heading for the door often and hit the wall. Trying to get out of bed got interesting as I never knew where I would end up.... Really disabling and dangerous. an inner ear issue apparently ... vestibular neuritis and no real treatment. Yes nausea also.

I have severe CFS/ME so know what my issues are.. I never ask the dr as many do not think it is a real illness. etc. I just now live within my limits. Far less hassle. They did one routine test a while back and gave me iron tablets, but no follow up and I can deal with that. But then I am very old and no cure for that!

I agree about Coeliac, as I was diagnosed over 20 years ago myself. Regarding alcohol, Coeliacs have to avoid any alcohol which is brewed, but can have spirits. I don't drink, so its not a problem for me. If you are Coeliac then beer can affect you, though I'm not sure if the Coeliac condition would result in worse hangovers after you have beers. Also I know someone diagnosed with Coeliac who doesn't have any symptoms, but they did have severe damage inside. You will probably be sent for a lot of blood tests anyway before the doctor can answer your questions.
