    Hi all,

Very niche request I know but has anyone been to Argentina in late August to mid September? Was looking at going to BA, Patagonia, Mendoza and then across to Santiago to get Valparaiso in.

    Would love any input. Thanks

Been there in August for snowboarding down south in Ushuaia and Bariloche. Its the off tourist season so expect less tourists and lower rates for accomodation (except in ski resorts naturally. Mountain areas are pretty cold but not unbearable. BA was a fair bit warmer, 15-18 on good days. What exactly do you need to know?

Sorry, I’ve just decked I wasn’t too specific in my original post!

That’s exactly what I wanted to know. We were looking at Bariloche and perhaps Patagonia in September and was wondering had anyone experience of winter down there.

    Thanks

Well as you're going in September you'll have missed the coldest part of winter so travel then is pretty easy. There'll still be lots of snow higher up the mountains but the roads are all clear. In that area I can definitely recommend Bariloche , El Chalten, the Moreno glacier and the Valdes Peninsula where you might be in luck and see orca whales hunting seals on the shore- September is the start of the season for this. Also at that time of year there will be a colony of thousands of elephant seals in the same area, well worth seeing.

    That’s brilliant. Thanks so much

Apologies for hijacking this thread but I’m thinking of going to Buenos Aires and Iguazu Falls next April/May. Would anyone be able to give me an indication as to what the weather would be like at that time of year?
    Thanks!

In BA April/May is the same as our Autumn so temps are highs of about 28c-32c but not as hot as a full on summer heat there which would get to 38c regularly.

Iguazu is near the equator so it can rain heavily at any time. That said April is the beginning of the dry season there so it will have less rain than Jan-March. Either way it will be hot and humid, especially at night so get an a/c room if you can afford it. The waterfalls wont be as voluminous in April as they are in the wet season but tbh that won't matter, Iguazu falls are spectacular at any time of the year, they put Niagara in the shade in comparison. Make sure to spend some time doing the hikes at Iguazu, the whole area is proper jungle so you'll see lots of wildlife by hiking. Its well worth spending 2 full days there rather than the rushed day visit that many do.

No worries johnire. And if you're a fan of BBQ meat then make sure to check out the many steakhouses in Argentina. Aside from the scenery and people the eating out there was one of the highlights of my trips there, Argentinans take their meat very seriously and have some of the best in the world. Do a bit of online research of the best steakhouses in BA and I promise you'll have one of the best meals of your life.

Hi - I was there in March and the weather was perfect, especially in Patagonia. Unfortunately I don't know how it is in September. But I would like give you some restaurant recommendations in El Chalten and El Calafate if you like: Try the steak in La Tapera (El Chalten) and also the Mi Rancho in El Calafate - it was so amazing.
