Outfit for sister’s wedding

Making my annual appeal re family wedding attire. I’m a disaster-hate shopping. 43 years old, 5 7 and size 12. Midi is my usual go to style of dress/skirt as I HATE my knees! I’ve blonde hair and fair complexion. Bridesmaids wearing blue. Wedding in May. Would love any suggestions of dresses that ye may have seen and liked. This thread never disappoints so thanks in advance!

I'm the same dimensions as you I have a few weddings coming up and saw this and thought it was grand. Tried it on though and it's lovely on! I've a long back and short legs and it covers my knees. Comes in blue (electric) and red as well I think.

That’s a beautiful dress. I’m 43 and my arms are not as toned as they used to be. A tan does wonders though. Thanks for taking the time to reply. Much appreciated

I think FishyFishy has given some great suggestions, the only one I don't like is the first one - the navy from ChiChi London.

Assuming the wedding is soon enough, navy is very dark for this time of year. Also, that sort of prom style is starting to look a bit dated to my eye.

The rest of them are lovely so its really a matter of your personal style/budget etc.

I especially like the mint green 70's style dress with embroidery and the Needle & Thread dress is very nice, although expensive.

That's a lovely dress. It reads quite casual there with the trainers and the small gold hoops but with light-coloured accessories and the right jewellery it could take you anywhere. How would you style it?

Good question! Much as I’d love to wear flats, heels will have to come out. I always think black with red but nude or gold would work too-I’m fair but will have the tan done. Any suggestions would be great! I know it’s not as dressy as outfits I’ve worn to weddings in the past but, tbh, I’ve a wardrobe full of those that I’ve only worn once...I could see myself wearing this again

I think I'd embrace the more casual, summery style of it - to me, that dress is crying out for a pair of espadrille wedges!
I wouldn't do black because black and red together screams Christmas to me - for summer I'd pair red with navy, white or nude/natural. But that's just me.
I'd go with something like these:

I'd go really simple - if you have long enough hair, what about a chignon with a big red flower?

The dress is simple but stunning. A headpiece would make it wow especially for a family wedding. I've worn similar dresses to family weddings as in they weren't overly dressy. I've brought the dress to various paople who hire out headpieces and I've hired a head piece. It completed the outfit. Since then I've worn the dresses numerous times to various events with no head pieces.

I'll preface this by saying that I'm not a huge fan of hairpieces (well fascinators really) but I do think the rental idea is a good one. You'd probably get something far more spectacular for the same money as buying a cheaper one, which in all likelihood you wouldn't wear again anyway.

Totally agree re renting a headpiece/hat - especially with paler colours, the cheap ones can look very cheap.

The red dress is borderie anglaise cotton. Personally I would pick some sort of straw hat, everything else for me is too formal for the type of material. I think it's a lovely dress. I like the yellow dress too but personally I think red one is fresher and more interesting. Yellow will work with bigger range of shoes and accessories though.

Bought one in a boutique where I live, and ordered another online from a well known department store in donegal, because the boutique didn’t have the one I wanted in my size. The second one didn’t fit, but not the fault of the dress, I am 5ft 9, and have an awkward enough shape! Saw a woman with a very different figure to mine try on one of the dresses in the boutique, and it was beautiful on her.
The lemon dress is also lovely; simple, elegant and very pretty.
