So the Turpin couple who imprisoned and abused their children over a period of three decades have been jailed for life in a California court.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/world/2019/0419/1043634-turpin-couple-sentenced/

Do they deserve life in prison? I would think 20 to 25 years would be apt but what do you think?

Personally I think they deserve the sentence they got , am surprised they didn't get longer .
I'd have locked them up and thrown away the key tbh .

To systematically abuse their children the way they did , to stunt their growth , so they appeared to be years younger than they actually are , mentally and physically , keeping them isolated and chained up , not to mention beating them .

I can only imagine the counselling and help those children need , and will need , to try move past this .

"They chain us up if we do things we're not supposed to," she said. "Sometimes, my sisters wake up and start crying (because of the pain)."
Do they deserve life in prison?

    Yes.

I heard they got 25 years, I was surprised that's all they got. The should never be let out unless they are so old they can't stand up.

Life imprisoned, sterilized and throw away the key just in case.

Do you think a year and a half or so would be ok for the abuse of 1 child?

Sadistic animals. Death would be too good for them.

No, I am certainly not trolling. I think 20 to 25 years would be a suitable punishment for the evil they did and inflicted. They will almost certainly get harassed/beaten in prison.

I feel sorry for their children whose lives they ruined.

    But advocating death or torture...really?

They should endure the pain their children suffered. Every day of the rest of their miserable lives.

You feel sorry for the children. Isn't that grand of you considering you also feel sorry for their monster parents...

Please tell me where I said I felt sorry for the parents? They committed heinous crimes are being punished accrodingly for that.

I have zero sympathy for them. Perhaps think before you post?

And yet on their wedding day they looked so normal.

Edit: renewing wedding vows apparently. Evil lunatics. Deserve every day they serve. Hopefully they end their days inside.

People here love that sh1t - pretending people say or think stuff they never do

I think those evil ***** deserve the 25 years though.

25 minimum is probably life for the guy at 57 and maybe the wife who is 50.

And they may not get released even then.

Edit: they probably won’t. That’s when they are up for parole which isn’t a guarantee of release.

their children whose lives they ruined.
    children whose lives they ruined.

They ruined the lives of their children. Tell me again why a mere 20 years in prison is too harsh?

The wife's sister gave an interesting interview awhile back:

I believe their eldest child is 29 years old, so his/her entire childhood as well as a good chunk of arguably their best adult years are gone too.

    They can’t get those back.
Those poor children and adults suffered greatly at the hands of these monsters, they were denied nourishment, education, freedom, socialization and a clean place to sleep.
They were locked in cages and beaten. They weren’t given medical care.
And even when they became legal adults, they were denied their human rights & freedoms because they were still chained to their beds in locked rooms.

The abuse they suffered doesn’t bear thinking about.
No punishment is enough for those two evil humans. Throw away the key.

...as they were more than happy to do to their own offspring for far more than 20 years (the oldest was 29 at the time of capture).

I don't think they should be tortured or beaten, but 2ont feel an ounce of sympathy for them when they inevitably are. For sentencing, I would have been happy to see the judge add up the cumulative ages (to the day) of their kids when they were caught, and to make that the sentence. It probably couldnt be done because it would set dangerous precedent for a similar case with say, a 2 and a 1 year old meaning defense would argue for just 3 years in that hypothetical instance, but on a one off here I would call that fairm

Well you're the one who started a thread where you consider their sentence to have been unduly harsh... Reads like sympathy to me.

Life imprisoned seems fair to me when you've cruelly and systematically ruined the lives of 13 children.

What's your particular issue with the sentence and why do you think it should be more lenient?

They definitely deserve life and there would be nothing wrong with keeping them malnourished and chained down for the fist few years to help them understand how the kids felt
